dirt? animals? where are they???

Playing this on Hard Mode Single player. Can't find dirt. Never seen an animal or the Puffer. Probably ran into at least 50 islands at this point. Anyone else?

you wont encounter big islands until after you trigger a specific story event

pretty sure you don't find big islands until you made the receiver and antennas (must be placed on at least second floor, antennas have to be a little bit away from each other but not too far away from the receiver- can be placed in a 5x3 area if you use the edges)

You need to craft receiver, battery for the receiver and 3 antennas and use them to find big islands. There you will find dirt, animals, pufferfish and some other stuff that only spawns on big islands.

I didn't see any at all until I got through the 4 main storyline objectives for chapter 1. The island with all that on it is big and has a tall tower like rock structure. Dirt is in caves on balboa though.

Ahhh. I avoided building the receiver because in earlier versions it just took you to the end-game. Thanks all!

End-game in earlier versions was just the metalstructure, right? Ie the first objective now. Anyway, that island took us like 10 large islands to find :P you were probably just very lucky (or unlucky since you dismissed the receiver).

It will take you to the oil rig first but after that if you continue to use it (once you move out of range of the oil rig) it will point towards large islands.

I found dirt but no animals other than bears, so many bears! I've been to the radio tower, Balboa, the Vasagatan, and four other large islands and a ton of small islands. I think I've found all the notes and completed all the quests. The only resource I don't have yet is wool (and for some reason I can't get eggs in my nest...)

There are no pufferfish or llamas or goats or screechers or anything, just Bruce, seagulls, and lots of bears.

Is this a glitch?

There are also no schools of fish like it showed in the blog. Do I have to start a new game?

Pufferfish are found when you dive close to the shore of big islands, they're yellow and will hunt you :) wool is from shearing llamas and eggs are from roosters (obviously...) not from nests.
If you're on an old save, then it's probably best to make a new raft, though I can't say for sure that old saves are "uncompatible", if you're just unlucky or if it's a bug.
