Building Tall Vs. Wide? What's Your Take?
Building tall versus building wide in this game has a few pro/con either way, but which one do you find to be better?

TALL: Keep your base area as small as possible, tech up faster but have less of an overall area on the map and less map control.

WIDE: Get as much map control as possible, with the disadvantage of having more areas to defend.

Somewhere inbetween?

Have you got a go to, build order?

if you dont control enough of the map you lose simple as that as advanced mills and farms cost way too much and suck and no building wide does not have any real disadvantage as if you have the econ defending all those choke points should be trivial at best

"more area to defend" is a fallacy. Your goal is to kill a certain number of zombies. The more money you have, the easier this task becomes. Money requires space because you can only stack up houses to 16 food per house, and then that's it.

Also not clearing out the map to some degree will prove fatal in the final wave as massive stacks of venom infected melt your walls in seconds as chubbies soak all your sniper bullets. And if you clear it, you might as well claim it.

you can expand too fast and lose to a hidden VoD out of LOS as it streams 12 harpies into your one tower... Its not as much as wide as it is steady, take only what you can keep

im not saying expand too fast as you said pulling a bunch of venoms or a horde of runners from a vod is bad im saying keep expanding

Read a few of the comments and tried playing this again, on day 89 now but I feel like the final wave is going to beat me out.

The good news is I am starting to crank out Lucifers but I think it might be too late, id imagine you need them in groups of 3's

wait omg they attack at wave 91/92, I thought it was wave 100...

IM SO DEAD :D
lol

Broke through on the north and west, east and south would have been ok.
The wall climbers broke it's back.

Still, should be able to win a game now with this knowlege.

Oh yeah... Rule of thumb, whatever duration you select, reduce it by 10%, then +/- 3-4 days, so for 100 days go to 90, then add or remove 3 to 4 days and thats your expected range for the final wave, pretty tough i know, but thats just how it works out.

Thanks for the tip.

This is probably my favourite defense game so far.

Battle for middle earth was like this a little bit with helms deep and minas tirith holding out against orcs and urukhai instead of zombies.

Brechnor, you have only one Warehouse and 1k Pop. this is way to less for EndGame, but if you just started the Game, than it´s nothing spezial to have only that. I try everytime to get 1,2k Pop at least on Day 40, day 25 is the best i could imagine and at the End more than 6k Pop. At the end i want 5-8 Warehouses in the End, just to spam Sniper/ Soldier/ Luzifer/ Thanatos.
GeminiEclipse Sep 3, 2018 @ 10:47am
For easy or normal difficulty you do not need 6k pop.

All of my victories are around the 1200-1500 range. Just after the fourth mayor.
Quineloe Sep 3, 2018 @ 11:07am
Just look at his income. +450 with just 20 snipers, 4 lucifers and 1 thanatos. He's basically broke, because he doesn't have the power to turn all those tents into stone houses.

no one said you need 6k to win, please don't strawman troll.

ya need 3+ warehouses all the thanatos you can crank and about 2k pop your economy is weak af and all you have are 4 lucifers 1 thanatos and 20 snipers? i tend to have 80+ snipers to deal with venoms harpies and chubbies ya dont have any executors on east side all i see is 1 shock tower that is far from sufficient well i guess the new players have to start somewhere but considering it was one of your first runs not bad oh and some advice play 120 days low pop since its your first win to unlock map 2

No but he said 1k is not enough. I was pointing out that 1200 to 1500 is usually the range that I win because there's room for goals. You don't need a super high population to win. For the OP maybe 2k is more than enough.

But if you think I'm a troll for not trying to convince people there's only one way to win... sure.

Hi,
I think you are learning and doing ok. Took me a while to just get to the final wave.
Simple build order on map1 for 100days/ challenging:

Drop the nearest food with the 1st $100. Then explore with the alt key pressed to find all the zombies surrounding me. Pick up whatever resources I find as long as I can spend them and not waste them. Then set to patrol my base until I feel comfortable expanding. Early mistakes of trying to do to much always killed me. Next money will be $213 and I build 7 tents to get the 1st mayor. I will generally expand west or east to the map limit because there are less special infected. Expand towards food and choke points. I try to plan my housing around the market and bank, so that i get the most benefit from them. Not always perfect on map1 because building space can be limited.

Goals for colonists: 200 & 2nd mayor by first wave, day 13. Then 600 & 3rd mayor or more by day 30, b4 3rd wave. 1200 and last mayor by day 50 or sooner and get better with every attempt.
Tech goals: Wood workshop and farm tech asap. Next is soldier center and 1 ranger/sodier at a time to build an expansion army. Tech tree is generally farm, market, cottage, ballista, Stone workshop, Sniper. It always depends on how my colony is growing and what strategy I am using for the tech tree.
It took me a while to understand the eco balance of power-food-wood-tents-army-quarry......
Wood and food are the early keys. With stone and iron next.
Also I learned a lot on youtube from aznelite / deadlyoptics now. Has some great older tutorials that still apply.
I really enjoy the game more than I thought I would. I play with pause, but learned a lot from guys who play no pause. I still make stupid mistakes too often, like on the 3rd day of the community challenge this week, LOL. But I just laugh it off and play a new survival game.
Just finished a map3 80day nightmare @ 700%. My first max nightmare victory. But it was played a couple hours at a time over 3-4 days with a ton of pausing for this Old Geezer to get there. I enjoyed the heck out of that!!!!!!!!!

Good luck to you and hope this helps some.
