I went 10 inquisitor and after two handed fighter. Inquisitor is the only companion class that doesnt make sense for me to go past 10.
Scythes are alright, they have sick crit multiplier. I basically use DR armor on her ( bonemail ) with stoneskin with inq DR and legendary proportions. In this game you dont need second tank, you need durable melees who dont die from side damage and able to save against crap ( preferably have blind fight, especially since 1.1 ) undead also have alot of usefull features for that.
Funny enough game gives you exactly 2 melees that are VERY hard to DC, Amiri ( of course full barb ) and undead.
Jaethal is best built as a pure Cleric. Sword and Board works well on her. She can spontaneously cast inflict spells to heal herself. You could eventually give her Bastard Sword proficiency and steal Valerie's artisan weapon, gives +6 to Cha if I recall correctly. Cha gives her more HP and Channel Energy uses.
Jaethal as a tank is pretty beastly. Immune to most dangerous conditions, can't die in combat.
