If you do this though I'm pretty sure Jhod dies in his place. At least that's what happened to me, I went straight to the Womb instead of the Capital. However I did end up resting like 10 times in there trying to figure out the puzzle, so that's 10 days of time passing at least.
Maybe if you're super fast you can save both of them, I dunno. Thus far this choice has been one of the most important I've had to make, and it's really downplayed.

There was a lawful option, told Garess told send the guard to the city and to meet up there. Went to the city, saved Jhod, then went to the fort with Garess.
There's been two times so far where I really wish that there was an "immediately and painfully kill minion" button during dialogue. With Kesten and with Harrim during his moment in the troll castle involving an anvil that could have been a boon to the evil sorcerer.
