You get the possibility to upgrade a village to a town after you claimed 3 regions.

where it say this. Man I thought there was button i pushed its killing me.
You get this tutorial message after you claim three regions (I know it's dumb) ^^"
So after you claimed regions, you get a new project for upgrading to town. Then you can upgrade buildings

So, 3 in total, or 3 on top of your main?

Okay, I finally figured it out. Before you can upgrade buildings, you have to upgrade the settlement itself. For example, to upgrade your Wooden Walls into Stone Walls, you need to upgrade your Village into a Town. And to get Reinforced Walls, you need to upgrade into a city.

In order to unlock a settlement upgrade, you need to start filling in spaces. I believe construction spaces allows you to build a Town, but I'm not sure.

As for upgrading a building, all you have to do is click on it and then click the upgrade arrow. Best part is that there's no construction time for upgrades. It just happens instantly! :)

I have now 5 regions. My capital is upgradet once, 3 other settlements have buildings on all free spaces but i can't upgrade my capital or other settlements.

What needs to be done so you can upgrade more?

I discuss this here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/640820/discussions/0/3393916911760365427/

But the game tells you you need three territories per town. Each with 6 buildings or more in them.

Once you have 3 towns, one of them (your capital) can be upgraded to a city.

So you need to get a 6th territory and put 6 buildings in it.

The actual verbiage from the in-game notice:

You can now upgrade settlements in your
barony. Every three villages acquired in
your domain will enable you to upgrade
one of them to the town level, provided
that 6 or more slots are occupied in that
village. The first upgrade must take place
in the capital.

Complete the relevant project on the
Projects tab to start an upgrade. Once the
upgrade is complete, the number of slots
in the settlement will increase to 20, and
the list of buildings will expand.

Three or more towns in your barony and
at least 16 occupied building slots in the
capital will enable you to upgrade the
capital to the city.

Just don't try to upgrade 2 villages at the same time. I think my game glitched out when I did that, because I never got any more projects to upgrade the rest of my villages.

And this was after I had conquered the whole map and maxed out all the building slots in my capital.:(

OMFG!!! I have 3 extra villages (4 with the the HQ) with full capacity and there is nothing I can find that will allow me to upgrade any village. It stated somewhere that I had to upgrade my HQ (Tuskdale) first. I still don't know HOW to upgrade my village. Please direct me specifically with clarity as to exactly where I'm supposed go to find the upgrade buttons/tabs/whatever. This game desperately needs an in-game guide.

I'm wondering the same thing. What they're saying isn't getting me there lol. I don't even know how to add more villages. All I have is Tuskdale and Tradegarde.

You can only build 1 settlement per claimed region. If you do not have any projects to claim new regions then just keep on playing forward. They will appear after certain events have been completed.
