Melee Sorcerer Build. Viable, or not?

As somebody who has only seen Sorcerers portrayed as party of the Draconic bloodlines, I was quite intrigued by the wide range of bloodlines Sorcerers had access to in this game. And one in particular stood out to me.

The Abyssal Bloodline seems to specifically focus on turning the Sorcerer into a physical power house, when I was under the impression they were supposed to revolve around being spell casters.

How well can a Sorcerer function as a martial class? Because as it currently stands, I'm thinking this bloodline might be better suited for an Eldritch Scion. But I'm not very experienced with the Pathfinder setting, so I was hoping for a more experienced opinion from the veteran players.

Abyssal bloodline and Dragon Disciple seem made for melee. Currently I am working a monk/dd build, but next playthrough I am going to do abyssal sorc/dd

Your bab is what kills it really. But its doable you just won't be very good at it.

Absolutely not, if the sorcerer does not cast , then he is ballast.

Being melee instead of ranged does not mean not casting. Touch spells and the rest still work when you are up close

Sure, it's pretty good actually. Assuming you're already able to cast level 7-8 spells and can transform into a red dragon ;)

You will hit nothing above a certain level. Right now certain level is level 1, since the stats are inflated. But even on a balanced game your BAB will be too low and you will not have any abilities to compensate. In pathfinder most dragon disciples are traps.

Grab an Aasimar Celestial Eldritch Magus with the Abyssal bloodline.

Just make sure if you go the whole casting in melee route that you consider taking the combat casting feat

Go Dragon Disciple when you can. Sorcerer 5/DD 10/EK 5 when mixed with polymorph spells can be devestating.

an eldritch knight prestige class would help a lot with any type of melee arcane caster, i need to fire the game again, but i think i saw this prestige class already implemented...

Seeing a lot of people recommending Dragon Disciple, which is cool for the ability to turn into a dragon. But I was more curious about the non-draconic bloodlines.


Like I said, the Abyssal (demonic) bloodline appears to be specifically devoted towards martial combat. Your bloodlines enhancements boost up your Strength and resistance to certain types of damage.


Another bloodline which seems like it could be good for a melee build is the Undead, since that one starts to give you damage reduction, as well as bunch of other Undead themed resistances.
