Why can't every class choose a deity?
I've been wondering, why do we have to be a specific class (cleric, inquisitor,...) to be able to choose a deity?

Reg and Octavia are magus/wizard and they worship Calistria.
Linzi is a bard, worshipping Shelyn.

I would love to be able to choose a deity as a sorcerer, but I can't.
In Neverwinter Nights you can choose if you want to worship a god or not, is there any reason why we should not be able to in Pathfinder?

I know that there are much more important bugs and other stuff that should be looked at at the moment. It's just something that recently came to my mind. :(

So? Choose one. Is it absolutely important that it says so on the character sheet? It doesn't for Reg, Octavia or Linzi.

Divine casters get their spells & abilities based on deity.

Rest classes don't get anything from deity (well, without GM or dying xD).

There are some special dialogue options based on deities. The MC already doesn't really have any acknowledged background, so just something small like being able to choose a deity would be nice, even if I won't benefit from the domains.

As I said, it's not a big thing, especially compared to all the other things missing in this game, but also wouldn't be complicated to implement imo.

The devs told us multiple times that every class would be able to choose a deity, or go atheist, and this was not demonstrated in the game.

The devs also told us we'd be able to choose a state religion for our kingdom. Well, I'm sitting here with 4 or 5 ranks in Divine, and that option still hasn't appeared in game, yet.

I am very disappointed with this. The idea of making my kingdom worship Asmodeus was the entire reason I made my first character an Inquisitor. When I ran out of patience with that, I rerolled a new character who wasn't a Magus inspired version of a Cleric.

It costs money. They found something better to use it on.

Yeah first priority was to deliver a technically well made game *giggles*

Well, they are a bit low on interactivity (whatever its called). I'm playing a cleric of Erastil and Jhod and the other cleric I met in the start don't even acknowledge it. Best I could do was "I worship Erastil too" an option I'm sure is available to everyone.

Wouldn't mind making myself High Priest for that matter or at least talking on some "divine" type missions but that's asking too much. At a basic level I think -and this should be doable- I would at least want some acknowledgement of being a priest...

Bull crap! All you have to do is add the option to the character generator, and you're done.

Even if it doesn't offer any supernatural powers to non-religious classes, it can still unlock the religious specific dialogue options for the other classes.

What stops you from choosing one?

Of course I can choose one and make it all up in my head. My character secretly worships Lamashtu, that's why I let nok nok do whatever he wants.

What I'm saying is, being able to choose one during character creation at least enables the chance of some sort of background being acknowledged by companions or NPCs. Making everything up for myself won't.

I'm pretty sure a "High Priest" King is called "the Pope."

I agree with you on picking a deity the list is in game it would not take a lot to move it to the other classes
Cpt_Weisemann Oct 14, 2018 @ 5:34am
Agree with op. We should be able to choose one in character creation.

Agreed it just seems odd we can't?

Yea, I was thinking the same thing that some of yous mentioned, I really don't think there's much work involved in just including that already existing list of deities for all classes.

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one missing this little detail, maybe we'll be lucky enough to see it some time in the future then. c:
