(1) Once we get teleportation circles online, I can easily visit Oleg and Svetlana by teleporting to the village.
(2) It drives poor Oleg nuts, since he moved here to get as far from people as possible. ;-)
2. LOL is that just the RP in you or did the Devs actually code it in?
Do you not care about being on water for the marina? I keep reading people saying that is a good choice to be on water since you get an economic bonus from pier/marinas.
Access to water does not strike me as a big deal. The stat bonuses from buildings, including piers and marinas, are so minor that you can ignore them entirely if you like. The meaningful benefits come from buildings that DO something besides boost your kingdom stats. Bulletin boards are fantastic, as are stocks, brothels, hospitals, tanneries, aviaries, artisans' workshops...and ESPECIALLY teleportation circles or mage towers. In fact, my single highest priority when choosing a new village location is to place it ideally for teleportation/travel.
I do also build schools, museums, parks, libraries...but not for the stat boosts; just because I like to think that my little virtual citizens are happy, smart. and cultured. ;-)
I must say, this game so far seems way better than I was expecting based off reviews and I was not expecting anything near as fun as this kingdom management.
Two waterfalls between the River Kingdoms and Brevoy eg.
Other rivers like the Skunk River don't provide trinkable water.
Anyway, since both rivers of the Outskirts are on the edges of the region I placed the village in the relatively center, not too far away from the trading post.
But either way, we are talking about almost meaningless bonuses.
For the South and North Nalmarches, aswell as for Kamelands, I put the village as close as possible to Tuskdale. This allows some time gain when you do the artisans quests there (and don't have the Teleportation Circles yet).
For Silvershire, I put the village to the far east, two "steps" away from the Silverstep Lake Village, and one step away from the Womb. Made it my first Town and built a mage tower as well as an aviary: both are very convenient when you need to go to Varnhold and Vordakai's.
