During game there are multiple times when you want (atleast some of your party) to let's say hunt, make food, use camouflage as part of camping or do things like climb, intimidate or other checks. If you have low skill or no skill at all it mean you most likely either miss that change totally (miss a lot of loot / hidden things / locked things / spring plenty of traps and so on) or just are unable to do them properly and get bad things happen to you. Even simple "try to hide, climb over the wall and take care of some guards / sleeping enemies" might be impossible leaving you only "bash through front gate and alarm everyone at the keep" option left.
Trying to make one or two maxed out and rest down to 7 or so is not best idea, you can try out different build using calculator here:

Putting atleast 12 point to intelligence is really a good idea instead of 7, unless you really really want to play PC who can not even read, have hard time trying to speak properly and so on...
Attributes don't seem to affect dialogue choices, but Skills and Abilities do.
There are some dialogue options that become available only if you have someone in your party who knows the proper spell. For example, the lizardman village is being controlled by an evil creature who uses magic to conceal itself. If somebody in your party has the spell that can reveal magical concealment (like Glitterdust, for example), you unlock a dialogue option to expose the creature's presence.
You also come across skill challenges such as Athletics, Mobility, Nature and such, which can make certain events easier or harder, depending on how well you perform.
The skills also seem to impact how well you do in camp, such as a good Stealth skill for setting up camouflage, or a Nature skill for cooking a proper meal.
Also, don't compare this to Pillars of Eternity.
This isn't PoE.
This doesn't even take place in the same franchise as PoE!
Me king, me da strongest !
Or just so strong that no one dares disobey. :)
Just be careful not to piss off your Leaders, though. I was just watching Spidey's let's play of the demo and his Chancellor quit the position because he never seemed to listen to his advice.
Yeah, which is why I'm hoping the leadership positions get more NPC's to fill them, because the current selection is very limited. Such as Jubilost being the only available Treasurer.
From the looks of it, there are some NPC's in game who exist specifically to fill in leadership roles, such as Batholomew, the Storyteller, and Jhod. They're not actual party companions, but you can still make them leaders.
But the guy did clearly state his reasons for quitting the job were because the Baroness didn't listen to his advice often enough. He said that he felt useless and was to old to keep arguing with them, so he just stepped down and they were forced to replace him.
