Enemy Alignment
So I've restarted the game as a paladin, and I'm slowly coming to realize most of the bandits aren't evil. Bandit Necromancers... aren't evil. People that waylay people on the road and steel their stuff aren't evil. Look I understand sometimes you're forced into bad situations but it seems absolutely ridiculous that all the bandits I've found and used smite on weren't evil.

Is this a bug or is it intended design that career murderers and theives aren't evil?

So this almost has to be a bug now as Technic League slavers are not evil and cannot be smited.

Maybe it works only against enemies with an evil aura in this game, which isn't the same thing as evil alignment (see description of the detect evil spell in Pathfinder). Maybe you can check this on an appropriate foe?

this game seems to have natural evil and evil alighment. I concluded that from priest spell that makes non-natural evil enemies repent and skip a turn. So most likely humans are non-natural evil.

Thats not how RAW works in Pathfinder though Morgian. Any evil being can be hit with smite evil. You get additional bonuses for smiting undead, evil outsiders and evil dragons... humanoids don't get a pass.

They are evil. They didn't choose the lesser of two evils. They flat out chose evil. They could have chosen to be farmers or craftspeople. Instead they chose evil. They are evil.

I have to imagine so but smiting them isn't doing anything.

bandits can be chaotic neutral. I dont see why they should be EVIL

Ha-ha, that's a classic case of when what claims to be CN really is a CE! (a real one, not Psychotic Evil usually used with CE... like in this very game, in player's options in dialogues).

you complain about detecting evil... imagine how is it possible to find any use for anarchy weapons or evil.

I don't complain about detecting evil... I complain about the complete lack of evil bandits... or evil technic league people... The issue is that there seemingly aren't evil bandits.

we really need a better way to inspect hostiles, with the amount of alignment based effects in this game its silly there are no lore/inspection checks

Its one of those things where I legitimately wish I could find a dev to answer this question about how the alignment stuff works for NPC's...This is a huge debuff to an ability that is already super situational and kind of makes paladin runs outside of just going two handed strength not all that worth it. Its just really freaking rough to start up a new playthrough as a paladin to find 90% of your smites fizzle.

Makes you miss "Detect Evil". :P

I just really want to know if Bandits not being evil is intended design. I really am curious.

Little more testing done. There are NAMED humans that are evil and you can smite... but generic bandits are still not evil. So this is intended and its just incredibly stupid. Bandits 9 times out of 10 are evil aligned in Pathfinder, I'm sorry you don't like that Kingmaker Devs but that is how the setting is.
