Any recipies better than Hearty Meal?
None I've found so far seem to be (Act 2). They get better? I must say it is annoying that the actual buffs from each recipe don't seem to be listed anywhere. Some of the buffs would be usefull situationally, like travel speed buffs etc, but I can never remember what they all do so I end up never using them.

Also, am i right that you can't cook food as alterative to both hunting or using rations no matter how many chickens and carrots you're carting around?

there are somes later that give you +1 to certain attack and damage rolls. Or hitpoints per level. So they can get rather fine.

This is a part of the game where simply showing what each meal did BEFORE you cooked it would go a long way towards making it much better.

Oh interesting. I didn't even know that the meals gave buffs.

Some foods give Fast Healing 1, Kaseberry pie or whatever it's called.

Shepards Pie gives Trisan a bonus 1d6 to channel, which can be nice in the early game.

id say best feature of food is "favorite food" of certain companions. You get favorite Harrim meal pretty fast, and it gives him +3 will save, which is alot. Valeries favorite food, something ragout lowers attack penalty while in defensive combat, which is good too, well you catch my drift.

They also have a second favorite meal, so thats also good to know.

Ah, that sounds more like it. The party may be getting a bit sick of ragout sometime soon then.

That one is situationally usefull. Just wish these things where listed on the recipe tooltips.

It would be great if it could remember what it does. That yes, you have to successfully cook it first to know what it does, but afterwards it would remember in the tooltip.

That would be a reasonable compromise.

pick the recipe you want to read the info on, put someone in the cooking slot, then look at the tooltip for the recipe below the cooking slot. That will tell you what each does.
A lot of them do the same thing *but* have lower DC than the hearty meal. So it doesn't give you extra, it's just more likely to occur.
However there are *hidden* bonuses for some recipes. After you eat a meal, you might find that it is one of your companions *favorite* meal and it gives that companion an extra bonus. So far I've found two of these.

Tristian loves Sheppard's Pie. Sheppard's Pie gives everyone the saving throw bonus just like hearty meal (for a lower DC) but for Tristian, it also gives an extra 1d6 for postive channels. (Note this extra 1d6 appears to be bugged and only works for healing. It does not give the extra 1d6 for harming undead though the tooltip implies it should)

Valerie loves Galt Ragout. Galt Ragout normally gives an extension on time before needed to rest because of fatigue. In additon Valerie gets to halve the penalty for fighting defensively.

You are correct that cooking does not replace needing rations or hunting.

Ah, so you can preview the actual effects before committing the rest? I shal try that. Didn't think to hover over that.

Here's a picture of the cooking tooltip once you select the recipe. It's annoying that you have to actually select it to see this instead of just the tooltip on the list but the info is there.

Note the tooltips do NOT tell you about the hidden favorite meal bonuses. Those are supposed to be surprises I guess.
