The amount of default portraits is a joke
Why are we still having the same issue in 2018 of having a RPG with super in depth character creation but no way to have a portrait matching how your character looks like.

I don't think I've ever seen such a bad case. I'm not asking to have every possible combination but some races like gnomes it's just ridiculous, even more when you consider Tartuccio taking your only option for a portrait.

I straight up don't want to play as a gnome just because of that. Really sad.

I have to agree with OP here

I am shocked by this too. I mean, it's the most comprehensive, detailed character creation I've ever seen so far in an RPG, but, BIG but, then your look is almost an afterthought. I don't see any pictures, not one, that I want to use. And it's like they have a phobia of facial hair too. ONE bearded guy in the entire selection for a RPG???

I understand the need for people to want portraits that tie in well with the characters they create, but I think it's a lot easier and better to simply find something on the internet if I really want a personal portrait of my character where they look completely similar to my PC.

Also agree with OP.

Sure you can add your own (that's great!) but the base game should have included a few more portraits.
I had not a single one that even remotely fit my character.

This is one problem CRPGs can never really "get" somehow. It's rare to see a game in this genre that doesn't feature:
1. Inconsistent in terms of tone or art style.
2. Not coming close to matching what you make.

I hate that CPRG developer seem to think they need to literally make BG2 again along with all of the limitations.

Divinity hit's the nail on the head. My portrait looks identical to my avitar. It's just great.

That's one of the few that do it right, as they literally just take a screenshot of the face/hair/skin you're using.

Hurray. When you pay a game the full price you can expect to have a decent amount of options to choose from and not force the players to go on the internet hoping to find that one image and then do photoshop work on it.
Do some reseach before buying, or get a refund.

Right. No one has any right to complain about anything in any game since they can do research.

Only 2 male Half Orcs, one of which already belongs to an NPC, and only 1 female Half Orc?

Only 2 pure Elf portraits, and they're both friggin archers?

Only 1 Half Elf portrait, and it's Jamandi Aldori's?

Only 2 male Gnome portraits, one of which is Tartuccio's?

Seriously, who the hell was in charge of this section!?
just import your own, problem solved, neext...

OP has a valid point.

It's pretty easy to say, "Yes, I acknowledge your point and I agree that there is a limited selection of portraits."

I think the game is great. I agree the portrait selection is trash. It could have been pretty easily resolved by the developers instead of players having to do the work themselves. And, it's NOT that easy for people who aren't very computer saavy. I know plenty of people who like PC gaming and aren't great at using a computer.

Quit making trash arguments, OP is right. The portrait selection objectively sucks.

Agreed. I've imported a few and keep checking the pinned thread as that collection expands, but it is hard to find portraits that match the style and quality of the companions' portraits.

If Owlcat's rapid delivery of hotfixes are any indication of their ongoing commitment though, I'm hopeful we might see something sometime in future. Months away probably, at best, but hopefully.

Here's the thing: Pathfinder already has YEARS of artwork and portraits at their disposal, which they did not use for some very odd reason.
