Is Mystic Theurge Any Good?
I'm curious to try it, but since the stupid game won't let me look at it until after I've already met the requirements for leveling into it, I can't tell.

My initial thoughts are that leveling up both a Divine and Arcane caster class simultaneously would get needlessly complicated, but if anybody else has given it a try, I would appreciate what information you can share about it.

It's basically just dual classing your caster without too much of a penalty (a few levels lost to prerequistites). You still can only cast one spell at a time but you have a huge selection to cast from. You get the spells later than usual as a result of the multiclassing so you're less potent than a pure wizard or pure cleric early on.

It will take a while to get going. A long while. But in the end it's not bad. Lots of spell slots and a massive variety. The biggest problem however IMO is that you can't take it until level 7. So while another wizard or cleric is using 4th level spells, you're only using 2nd.

It depends what you want your caster for, if it's for utility they are golden, but if you want to use it for control or blast mainly,it's better to go with some other build.

Besides a few archetypes get close to the same without splitting classes (except in term of total number of spell per day)@

Mystic basically outlasts any other caster.

You end up casting as a 15 Arcane, 15 Divine, if you split the regular classes evenly, which gets you 8th level spells on both sides. Alternatively, if you go 7 / 3 on the regular classes, you can get 9th level spells for one class, and 7th for the other.

Plus the ability to use Divine slots for Arcane spells (at a penatly of +1 level, eg lvl 4 cleric slot for a fireball) or vice versa, makes them very flexible.

Just try to be careful on which classes / archetypes you use, since its possible (and way more effective) to have both classes using one stat.

That's not something I'd recommend, you would only be able to take the prestige class at level 8, and you would get level 3 spells when hitting lvl 9, ATA that stage, wizard/cleric/druid would be casting level 5 spells.

All the time or just once a day as per pen and paper?

If it's all the time, then it got way much more powerful once you reach level 16/17 (depending on initial class choice)

In the game there doesnt seam to be a set limit.
