I fear I'm brewing a rebellion.
I read online that if you side too much with the people or the merchants it comes back to bite you. Sadly nearly every choice I've had I've sided with the people because it made sense.

1) Party for all or party for wealthy go with party for all so everyone can attend if they're not too proud.
2) Merchant was working for stag lord, arrest him (thought there'd be a trial).

Then the councillor's choices went off in other directions so I fear at the end of the game I'm going to have a rebellion on my hands. Anyone know if there'll be more choices lvl 5 advisor + I can side against the peasants in a way that doesn't seem stupid?

Yeah the merchants vs other people thing happens for most of the councilors questions to you, the ruler.

Yes, you are brewing a rebellion because you perceive the people as being right in every instance. However there are also separate problems that can occur in the kingdom if you perceive the merchants as being right in every instance. There is no "best" way to run the kingdom nor is there a walkthrough that can tell you how to avoid all consequences of your actions. The best thing you can do is to keep doing what you think is right and then see what the consequences will be.

Well, you certainly arn't going to lose the game because you side with merchants or plebs - basically you will get more loyalty and less economy, or vise versa.

You can annoy your councillors into leaving their posts, for example Tsanna likes to let the merchants sort themselves out, if you keep ignoring her advice and favouring one side or the other she will walk.

All I've got is Tristan and like I said its not that the plebs are always right its just that the options I've been given usually have the choice that favours them be the choice that makes sense. Alternatively other advisors have had other options e.g. fey are attacking a village move the village as Fey only attack if you intrude on their home, a rock quarry disaster has occured don't force the merchnats to change their pricing but rather fix the quarry. With Tristan though the choice favouring the peasants always seems to be the sensible choice at the time. Not because merchants are bad but because the other option doesnt' make sense. Let a known criminal go free or arrest and investigate, throw a party for the elite in a struggling to grow barony or one for everyone.

It's not that I flavour the common folk it's just that with nearly every "choice" the sensible option also happens to be the one favouring them. Give me one where the sensible choice favours the merchant or if you must have shades of grey one like the tac collector issue where I both sides had a point but I came down on the tax collectors side because of the lore regarding their order.

No choices you make will gank you. You just get different rewards.

Only way to F up is by not making choices and ignoring Kingdom Managment.

Get Tsaana if you are concerned about your personaliy affecting choices, she lets them fight like in a Coleseum and only the strong survive.

You have to remember that this game is taking place in a medieval society. Which means that the bulk of the economy is sustained by the nobility. Peasants and other common folk don't have that much money to throw around, and probably devote all their income to paying for the essentials they need to survive, or remain in business.

In both logical and RP terms, holding a fair for the common folk might be good for getting their spirits up, but it would likely cost more than it would earn. On the other hand, holding a party for the nobles offers you the chance to make some powerful connections, which can result in stimulating the economy even more down the line.

As for the merchant who was working for the Stag Lord? You may want to remember that the Stolen Lands have a long history of anarchy. The Stag Lord maintained his authority through threat of violence if anybody tried to oppose him. I'm sure that at the time he was in power, the merchant decided that it would be better to sell his wares to the Stag Lord willingly and continue making an income, as opposed to denying them service, and having his thugs steal everything by force and being left destitute.

True however at the time you get the choice of "fair for all" or "dinner for the wealthy" you've only just started your barony. In my case it was literally only a few day's after I arrived there so from my perspective I only had 5 merchants Zacerie, Hassuf, Vaun, Asariel and Elina (I know I'm mispelling those names but don't have time to look them up). It's not that I don't see the medival advantages of buttering up the wealthy its that I don't see the wealthy being present in my barony at that stage.

I think it would be better if they'd swapped this and the merchant trading with stag lord events. First one you get after claiming your barony is "This guy was trading with the bandit lord you just defeated what do we do". Then later on after you've had time to build buildings, probably claim the outskirts, maybe build a second city, gotten the merchant event to tell you there are merchants and people present in your barony you don't see. Then you get asked do you want to hold a fair for all or a dinner for your most wealthy. Since then your looking at more of a choice. For me though when it came up I simply didn't feel like I had enough wealthy settlers to justify holding a dinner for them as my group outnumbered them and I didn't even have a treasurer at that stage.
