What Class Best Suits the Story?
So I saw a rather interesting question over on the Pathfinder Kingmaker Subreddit earlier today that asked the titular question. What class or build best makes sense for the story being told by the game for the Main Character. . .and it got me thinking.

While of course any and all classes can play the story and be made to fit, I do find that some are easier to justify being a Mercenary out to found a Nation then the others.

As a small example: I find it quite unlikely that a "Druid or Monk" would ever be the sort to wish to create a nation-state to rule over themselves. One tends to focus more on naturely pursuits and the other is focused on physical and mental perfection. On the Archetype neither really give the ambition that one would need to pursue such a goal. Similarly Paladins would be too busy trying to route out evil to set that aside to become a ruler and creator of laws.

But for characters like the Fighter, Sorcerer, Magus, or certain Inquisitors or Clerics (depending on their god of worship) it makes all the sense in the world for them to be power hungry or ambitious enough to want to establish their own nation.

So as you can see there are arguments for and against why each class or archetype might be interested in or be appropriate for the story to progress or arguements why they might not be appropriate as presented by the story.

But What do the rest of y'all think? What arguments could be made for your archtypical classes to want to join Jamandi Aldori's mission to create a nation out of the Stolen Lands? And Why do you think that class might fit?

I say fighter. Jamandi is a fighter, it just seems to fit a ruler's style well to me. They are very personal when fighting, and they are very hearty. Its also the easiest class to level up, so it works well with your MC being the only one you cant remove from your party most of the game

I can certainly agree with that. Especially since as a Fighter they may be looking to make a name for themselves either as a Warlord or to fulfill their ambition. About the only one that I can't see making much sense to the story is the Aldori Defender. . .mainly because of how equally Jamandi suspects you when compared to Tartuccio.

Ya lol, but all the other 3 styles are stereotypical as can be

The game sprinkles longbows, greataxes, rapiers, kurkis, and quarterstaffs at regular intervals throughout if you're looking for a weapon type. My favorite weapon is a shortsword called Allslayer but you don't get it until near the end so I can never justify a shortsword build. :steamsad:

I think a Sorcerer / Eldritch Scion with the Fey bloodline fits the story best. it's 20th level ability even fits the theme of (some) of the game's possible endings!

Plus, the Stolen Lands are practically overrun with Fey creatures. It only seems reasonable that the monarch of the land might carry a trace of Fey blood in their ancestry. :)

I tend to play druids a lot, because they're my favorite, but I agree that the story definitely feels awkward for a tree-hugger. lol

Fighter definitely makes the most sense.

sylvan sorcerer for the fae connection built in and the nature theme. That said the game makes no distinction which class you are or species.

I would think you would want less fey connection for a typical MC, because we are against the fey.

We are against 1 curse fae and her minions. Your kingdom is full of fae, many friendly, you gain in story a connection with the fae world that actually gives you abilities. And the golden ending has you build a faerie kingdom so yes a connection to the fae makes perfect sense

Suits in RP style, probably someone who can rule, which means, in this world, being able to fight, be popular (cha and social things), above average at wise and smarts, and a little polished.
Who fits that...
well, what classes need cha, wis, many skills? What races boost social skills and are likable?
bard comes to mind right away.

if you don't care about actual RP factor, a schmoozer is all you need ... skill focus persuasion, high cha, all the +persuasion feats, inquisitor (level add), etc.

Practical standpoint, be aware that you need to be able to solo a few quests. Here again inquisitor comes out, healing/summons/generally OK at dealing with that, could know trickery and perception and other survival skills.

But inquisitors are zealots and wold not really make good kings, unless for a willing theocracy.

What abilities would those be? I've only done a successful playthrough once (lawful evil), and I don't recall getting any kind of Fey inspired power up. I tried asking for the reward from the end Jubilost's companion quest, but they wouldn't let me have it!
