Help me understand JRPG
Before i buy.

i don't understand this genre.
Every time i try to play any of JRPG its feels like crap, its plays like crap. What game I have played this feeling always the same.

Last JRPG game i played was Tales of berseria and that was pure chore to me. The story is awesome but my god this combat system of every JRPG. I don't feel like I can control anything in games like this. I can play any genre, simulators, strategy, rpg, quests but good lord i dont get JRPG at all. Its always feel terrible for me. I need halp.

really? The story in berseria is awful, combat on the other hand is amazing. It's more like actual combat game with combos and stuff. Just dont play combat oriented games.

And berseria is actually much easier than zesteria for example, since party AI is really good and actually helpfull in combat. Its also pretty easy, you can bind whole combo on one button and make them for every situation.

Your problem might have been that you played on mouse / kb. Tales of games are actually the only jrpg i know that is impossible to play good on it. Controller is must have, because you need to press alot of buttons while constantly moving and holding block, you have to be a spider to do it good on keyboard.

If you like story based games, check out Legend of heroes games, they are one of the BEST story games across all genres, and im not even a fan of jrpgs. Cold steel is also pretty noob friendly, older games are kinda harder. They have a plot across 9 games, thats the only problem, because to understand the whole thing youll probably want to start from the very first game.

Well, basically in a JRPG you have guys that look like girls, girls with giant boobs (except the dsignated "little sister" one) and in the end you kill a god :steammocking:

Combat system of the tales game is not for everyone, try other jrpg with combat system you might like
NiEr Automata
Y's series
Neptunia series(fun? Yes, good story? No, memorial characters? Definitely)
Night of azure
Aterlier series
Valkyrie Chronicles

Nier is literally a Japanese RPG with sidequests while DmC is a hack and slash game with a guided story mode lol.

its an action rpg for sure, but jrpg? if you think it deserves to be called as JRPG just because their developer is from Japan then so be it. Even though it is a bit far fetched since Nier doesnt even have the typical nippon-esque style to the game.

I said example not vague reasons, which element of the game isn't qualified as jrpg? What you just do is nothing more than a simple copy pasted from an random article that discuss about this
I'm serious, I just simply curious why would you think nier isn't jrpg, the ARPG is just a subgenres that can suit a ton of game regardless of where it came from

You might wanna go google what JRPG stands for before you continue this conversation.

Well, Nier is a hack and slash game with minimal customization options, it's not exactly stat dependant (regardless if it does have a levelling system, and the chip system) and doesn't have an ATB or turn based system. Traditionally speaking, it falls far from fitting into the genre.
