PRE STORY required ?
So I just bought the FFXV and have been avoided all spoiler since last year (Been waiting for the pc version) and all I know about the main story is that the main character name Noctis.

I have heard that there are movies and anime or some kind of like a PRE STORY (Brotherhood and KingsGlaive) Do I need to watch both of them first in order to understand the whole story if so which one should I watch first

SRY FOR BAD GRAMMAR, and please keep this thread spoiler free :D thanks.

I would strongly advise watching them, yes. They give you the background and FFXV starts right after it.

There's also that novel "parting ways" but I heard it's awful. However, I think Kingsglaive and Brotherhood are great.

external media's are all spoiler free for the game, in fact, they mostly serve to fortify and to fill in blanks on main story. I would suggest the below sequence,

Main Game Chapter 1 > Kingsglaive > Brotherhood > Maingame End > DLC

DLC does hold spoiler, so avoid DLC until certain part of the game. But i would recommend playing DLC AFTER finishing the game. Doesnt hurt to do so and so that it doesnt interrupt the momentum of your story progression.

As a person who DIDN'T watch any of the pre-story elements, I can say you will probably enjoy the game a lot more if you do...

...because although I did an entire play-through on PS4 when it came out, I never felt attached to any of the characters during it. The game felt very cheesy to me, and unfinished. I then learned afterwards that the majority of the personality-establishing elements for the main characters happened prior to the game x.x

Will probably have to watch Kingsglaive and Brotherhood to get myself hyped to play this again.

Yup, I played the PS4 Version right after it came out and hadn't watched any of the shorts or the film. I was very confused about the story. The PC version includes more additions that explain things, but you should absolutely watch the shorts and the film before playing. It will dramatically increase your enjoyment of the play through.

They aren't required but some may find it helpful.

Or you could go the other route and play the game and watch them afterwards to fill in blanks/questions (whereas if you watch them beforehand, you don't even know if you, personally, will have questions, at that point).

:D

I would recommend watching Kingsglaive movie then Brotherhood and then play FFXV. Kingsglaive is technically a prequel movie that runs right up to the start of FFXV and also runs parallel to the first chapter's timeline within the game. When you hit Chapter 2 in FFXV you have officially gone past the end of the Kingsglaive movie and they even tie the 2 directly together through a cutscene. Which is a pretty cool touch imo.

Brotherhood is a great but very short 5 episode anime series you can watch for free on Youtube. They have the links Pinned in a post here on the Steam FFXV Discussions. I highly recommend watching it. It is pretty much all flashbacks of the 4 main characters to give you history on how they came together. Brotherhood is actually really good. I wish they would make more of it.

Noctis finds out about the conclusion of Kingsglaive near the end of Chapter 1. The demo ends here, and this is where I watched it while waiting for the full game to be released; I feel it fits, IMHO. The opening scene of Chapter 2 doesn't have any context whatsoever if you haven't watched Kingsglaive. So whether you watch it before or after Ch1, just make sure you watch it before starting Ch2.

As also mentioned previously, Brotherhood is a series of flashbacks. These focus on the main cast before the happenings of the game, however the scenes that take place in the 'present' may be considered slightly spoiler-ish if you haven't played a few minutes of Chapter 2. (There is a certain type of random encounter that is introduced in Ch2, I'm sure you'll know it when it happens) I also did my best to avoid spoilers so Brotherhood was my first introduction to these types of encounters.
All depends on how you define "spoilers."
