Rediculous VRAM usage
Is it normal for this game to use such a rediculous amount VRAM so quickly? According to the overlay, the game uses almost all 3 gig of vram at 1080p. At not even low Model Detail and the absolute lowest TRAM. What on earth is going on in this game.

This of course cause FPS to absolutely tank when it passes 100% vram usage.

It might just be storing them instead of actually using them.

As long as the GPU isn't heating up and you're not crashing, does it matter? Edit - I've had it running at what the games says is 101% vram usage and had no fps issues, although I don't like leaving it there so I keep it to 70-80% using the high setting

...3GB is fairly low for this game tho. In the demo you could barely get away with 2gb vram on Low TRAM setting but in the full game it's probably harsher.

you dont even remotely understand how things work it seems..... on max settings it will use like 90% of ur VRAM as quickly as it gets it loaded from ur HDD/SSD. this results in more details in textures and decreases loading times by quiet a bit when loading "similar" areas.

having more % USAGE of VRAM do not affect performance at all. in this game a higher setting result in more details, but this is the only reason why u are losing fps. its not about how much load in VRAM u get.

If you happen to have a GTX 970 (hopefully you got the class action settlement) if you go above 3.5GB usage you will hit a flaw in the card which will destroy its performance.

that is also not true, since there are many 900 series user out there with TRAM on max and all is fine.

Not true that the last 0.5GB of VRAM in a 970 is horribly slow and will kill your FPS?

Here: https://www.pcgamer.com/why-nvidias-gtx-970-slows-down-using-more-than-35gb-vram/
I actually received a $30 class action settlement due to the flaw.

All :steamhappy: THREE :steamhappy: gigs :FFXIII2mirochu: Wow! Who could have predicted low range cards to ♥♥♥♥ themselves at 1080p! Ridiculous! :bienfucrying: Why should the player be forced to buy better hardware so we can play at the resolution and fps we want? All games should be optimised so even a 960 can run it like butter! ♥♥♥♥ the future!
I'll never consider lowering my resolution to 720p, I shall make a thread and ♥♥♥♥♥ around instead!

That last .5 wasn't meant for gaming tasks essentially, it is slower. If your fps is high to begin with you won't notice much tho I think.

It's been a long time since I read about all that hoopla surrounding that care tho, what people were most angry about is being lied to re: how much high vram there was and the stats of the card.

you got the settlement due miss information at point of sale the 970 in all fairness was a good card at the time and worked and performed as nvidia intended and still isn't terrible now i used to run 2x 970 in sli and i can't rember noticing the slower 0.5 ram ever causing me problems

It's good as long as you don't go above 3.25-3.5GB VRAM usage. GTA V if I went above about 3.25 the FPS would drop right off.

What he's talking about is true, was a widely reported issue and discussed on youtube etc, people got money from the lawsuit that ensued.
