Well there seems to be an option to ally with the pirates but I haven't tried that.

Yes you can ally with pirats they have there own stores(black markets?)
But be aware every other faction will hate you.

I random started in career mode right down on southern border got 3 pirate missions at start planet sorry I cannot remember name but I assume pirats are randomly scattered all over

the problem is you spend more time flying around for mission for your faction of choice then fighting

Ok so scored a pirate mission, negotiation for 0 rewards and max reputations.
Got in their good books and received an invitation to become a member.
Accepted and can now shop at black market locations
Tiz a pirates life for me.
With the main story finished, i have kitted my Grasshopper out in some of the new mods, double heatsinks, all flamers++ and ML+++, gyro++ for less stability damage, arm mods++ for an extra 120 melee damage etc.

basically you only want to work with the pirates enough to get the option to buy black market membership, after that the only bonus is making the black market cheaper, but making every other faction dislike you isn't really worth it Imo. Less ya going for some deep roleplay

It is too hard to keep track of all the factions, I dont have any i really like, i just take whatever jobs available.

The main deal seems to be to prioritize missions against the planetary government, and ignore missions they offer. Otherwise in effect over time your rep with all factions will fall. The planetary government doesn't have a rep, so that's not a concern with them.

you dont need to work for them you get the invite via an event i got it with a rep of -52 only thing rep has influence to is how much you have to pay. btw there is no lostech avaible to buy only some mechs and + weapons.
