BATTLETECH

Some ship upgrades are pointless
whats the point of having a larger mech bay or larger habitat if we can only field 4 mechs? 6 mech bays is enough, and 8 pilots aswell.. why would I upgrade these?

my upkeep is now at 1.5 million a month :P (on normal) lol.

upkeep is fine once you get enough extra mechs and sell them off

So like.. how many mechs and pilots you have?
Petrothian 7 maj, 2018 @ 23:12
right now:

full 18/18 bays of assaults.
and 19 pilots (7 of them are maxed out, the rest/newbs are being trained/subsituted when one takes a concussion).

Hypothetically if you were capped at 12 mechs and 16 mechwarriors would that make much of a difference to your operations?

Recreation upgrades will raise your Morale, helping to have Precision Shot and the other Morale based abilities sooner in a combat. Max ship Morale is 50, and start of misions seems to be your ship morale. Also, besides kills in combat, Communications will refresh your usable morale, also.
Rec upgrades have upkeep cost. Better to raise morale with extravagant spending and ignore the upgrades.
I built a lounge for RP reasons, though. XD

I'm currently on med 10 and mech 14, and I don't really have a reason to upgrade further.

Already spending over 600k a month on upkeep, it's a bit too much - I want to go full salvage at this point of the game for all the rare stuff.
Yeah, rec upgrades just seem like a terrible investment. You pay a large sum of money for a one or two morale points, and then it adds an extra monthly upkeep cost. For a similar price, you can just spend more for a month during a financial period, not have to pay an ongoing fee for doing so, and still get a permanant morale boost.

Honestly if they wanted to make them worthwhile they would made morale have a baseline that's affected by rec upgrades, and make all other modifiers (both positive an negative) last for a limited amount of time (so for example, monthly expendeture boosts and cuts would only have an effect on the morale of the month or a few months after those expendetures were in effect).

I'm still buying all the upgrades though, because completion.

The mechs part, I did have missions where I end up getting internal dmgs and would take about 3 days per to repair (so 12 per mission).

I have experienced having more than 12 mechs out of commission due to refitting with new shinny and them being wrecked.

Mechwarriors, not so much, never had problems with having an entire lance out of commission since I installed cockpit reinforcement mods/mod ++

I been collecting kickstarter backer mechwarriors (and sometimes getting them killed) in the process:

Some of those upgrades have effects on random events too.

I like to keep two full lances warmed up at any given time, and the 3rd bay does give a nice Mechtech bonus.

Nope, recreation upgrades are dirt cheap to maintain. After all of them built, morale is always hitting 50 cap, so you can afford less spending per month without any negative effects (250k on day 600 with spartan option). Also with rec facilities all random events will give you even more morale, effectively starting every battle 100% charged and ready to pop legs.

That doesn't work for me, unfortunately I only seem to get a one off hit of morale.

Misquote there, but sentiments shared since I was pretty much parroting the actual person quoted that said.

Like mentioned, Rec upgrades have an upkeep cost, and they're a one time boost. Higher spending doesn't have an upkeep cost, and it's the same boost. Eventually you're going to cap out either way, but rec upgrades keep costing you money in the future, while other morale boosts do no such thing.

And Pod 3 has a swimming pool in it! Who wouldn't want a freaking swimming pool in space? How else will we do our swimsuit episode?

My Crew sometimes forget their swimmsuits when useing the Pool

From my point of view the 3rd Mech Bay is unnecessary with Mechbay 1 and 2 I can have 12 Mechs ready for Action and most repairs are done really quick with two Mechbays and the available upgrades
