Jump Jets......always or no?
I love jumping around and being able to get evasion, shoot, angle and cover with my Griffin, but I find myself always using mechs with jump jets and leave the walkers behind.

What are your opinions on this?

always for me, great for flanking/getting out of trouble.

Depends entirely on the mission and the tactical purpose of the mech.

Never.

More Amror and wepaons is better.

I run JJ free currently. Just don't generally find a need for it with my current strategy and prefer using the tonnage for other things.

Might start a second career where I focus on SRMs, though, in which case I'll probably use them.

Evasion is unreliable. You can get sensor locked or just RNG'd to death. Jets are only reliable for clearing terrain and for jumping into the backs of mechs, which is sometimes a bad thing.

I fit them on long-ranged brawlers and fire-support, nobody else. Just waste of tonnage and heat management.

Jump Jets can be a huge help. They can give some mechs a bit of a speed advantage or get them up high into terrain that otherwise they wouldn't be able to access or which would take them longer to access if they are kept to the ground.
The latter means that even one jump jet is worth adding, sure it won't have the range of multiples, but it at least lets you get up or down steep terrain.

I still have mechs that rarely use the jets, but I do like having them there as a movement option in most mechs.
Adds a lot more tactical options (and survivability for glass cannons/missile boats), must have on any decent brawler. Also gives a great amount of evasion pips and allows you to position your Mech just the way you need it. Can skip on a tank with Bulwark or some light mechs with insane speed.

My frontline mechs usually have them for fast repositioning and emergency DFA attacks if I'm in trouble, LRM carriers and snipers less often.

I consider JJs something of a luxury extra. If I have spare tonnage, am already satisfied with my weapon loadout, armour, and heat management, then I'll put on JJs.

So in other words I never use them, because the only mech I've ever felt that comfortable with my loadout on is the Atlas II, that thing really does get an obscene amount of free tonnage. Even then I've only got one JJ equipped.

I try to have at least 1 jump jet on a mech, so they can get to the high ground if needed or down cliffs quicker.

Mobility is good. Can jump farther and change facing easier than walking. Especially due to terrain that slows walking speed.

jump jets are best used on long range support mechs, almost every other example is just wasteful

FWIW, I've seen multiple reports of the game starting the player's mechs on terrain that you can't move from without jump jets.

I've not had that issue but there are certainly a good few maps where having jumpjets really helps a lot

Depends on your lance composition and tactics. I like putting a few on my flanker and cavalry mechs so they can jump behind the front line to alpha strike their weak back armor.
