It's a franchise named after a videogame; battletech is a bit different.
Metaltech was the name of the first Earthsiege game.
Metaltech: Earthseige
Earthsiege 2
MissionForce: CyberStorm
Starsiege
Starsiege: Tribes
Tribes 2
(the rest don't count)
I've probably put 5,000 hours into Starsiege since 2000. I played a ton of it back in the day.
Starsiege takes place in the Earthsiege universe, but way later in the future. You fight on other planets, hence the name. Much like Starlancer and Freelancer, same universe, different time.
"I think"
But it's not, it's the Earthsiege Universe.

During Starsiege, you defend a ship called "The Arc", which eventually launches into space incase you can't win against the Cybrids.
Tribes is the ancestors of the survivers of that ship, all the teams are named after Starsiege references (at least at one point).
I missed CyberStorm 2: Corporate Wars

hmm, i must have either misremembered the plot or else got it mixed up, but did not starseige refer to the earth calling back all their military might, leaving their colonies undefended to prepare for a attack by the Cybrids?
I remember that shareware game fondly, if only because it's the 1st game I did LAN play with. My buddy and I would connect our PCs together with a NULL modem cable and play it. My best memory is both of us running out of ammo and my Madcat head butting my buddies mech to death. :) Wish I could remember the name - might go looking for it so I can play it in Dosbox 1 more time.
Joke aside; with what this game will due to raise the awareness of this genre, another Earthsiege game may very well be marketable.
kinda, the rebellion started because the Empire was defending Earth with all of the resources and leaving them with nothing. I believe the Emperor himself was actually 400 years old and kept alive artificially.
I don't think the Cybrids had actually attacked yet, they were building up their army.
Pretty sure it just installs and runs. Shouldn't be much involved.
Finding a new master server might be tricky. The main one has been down since like 2003, when Dynamix fell.
They are all free

Weren’t they all released for free a few years back?
Not Cyberstorm, but it's really not hard to find.
