That being said, I think using that as an excuse to play Jack Sparrow... not so sure. Listen creators of games are fired, they change companies, they don´t get residuals from remakes or newer versions of the old thing... This happens a lot in the industry, this is not the only game where the money you pay doesn´t go to the original creator team, in fact unless it´s an indie dev most chances are it won´t. It´s disgusting, and we should all hope the industry changes for the better... but not paying it´s not the answer, specially if you want to play it. Even if the original devs do not get a cent of that sale, this is still their game, it´s their portfolio and resume all in once, if you want them to ever make another game, the good publicity and sales of Disco Elysium can only work towards that. Although in this case it´s hard to know, as no matter where you get your tale of what happens, it seems several of the people in charge created a pretty toxic enviorement.
