i think I've accidentally soft locked myself at the beginning of the game and i can't really move forward.

I'm up to the part where I need to either talk or fight to the large factory worker. im doing the compassion start so i can't fight him since its my weakest stat. i tried talking to him but right as i was about to complete the dialogue to continue i exited out of the conversation in hopes i could do something that didn't make my partner angry.

I have since found it doesn't matter what you say in that moment he always follows you with no consequence. but i no longer get the dialogue option so i can't continue the game into the docks. do i have to restart my game?

There are three methods. Physical Instrument, fighting the racist. Conceptualization, becoming a racist. Savior Faire/Perception - jump into the harbor like a frog. GL. It's much harder than it first appears to actually soft lock yourself in this game. It's near impossible, as the devs tried to make it impossible, but there are still edge cases.
