Stuck on Titus Hardy rhetoric check

So I'm stuck on the rhetoric white check with Titus and I can't get it to open back up because my characters skill cap of rhetoric is locked at the base amount , I tried to use the die from the dice maker to reset the check but it that one wasn't, same with the green die from the book store, Anybody have any ideas as to what I should do.

Is that the cap including the INT bonus for smoking? As in the temporary boost from drugs/alcohol also temporarily increases your cap, but if you put a point into that stat while it's boosted, you get to keep it. Only works once, admittedly, unless you have one of the thoughts that increases the boost for a given drug.

Got any other quests you can do in the meantime? Sometimes weird connections can serve as clues that unlock other checks. Some checks also unlock based on the number of days that have passed, though I'm not sure if that's one of them. Some of your pending thoughts could also unlock it, if you've got any +Rhetoric thoughts you haven't slotted.

Also, before attempting the check again, try exhausting all other conversation options with hardy and the other boys and their lawyer, everart maybe also, you can get alot of hidden bonuses to that particular check.

Could you please let me know how you managed to do that? I'm stuck on the exact same problem, i.e. need to level up Rhetoric, but am already at skill cap.

I used cigarettes to increase my skill cap in rhetoric and I managed to do it.

This is most embarassing. I had the ciggies equipped in my hand, but didn't realisie that I had to click them to actually light one up... I'll go stand in a corner and look sheepish.

my rhetoric level is at maximum even with smoking a sig, i cant put another level in that. Ive spent all my points into skill, saved, got 97% skill check and still managed to fail it and now I dont have anything to boost my rhetoric. Im hoping for a solution if you find one please ;)

If you saved, can't you just reload that save again? I don't think anyone would blame you.

well after failing this skill check ive done around 5-7 quests and i dont wanna reload. but if there is no other option i guess i will need to

yep, my quest list now looks like: get boots from the corpse (which is already sent to the morgue, so i cant get them); learn more from tit hardy.
