I really want to play this game but...
the publishers here on Steam have stolen this game from its original creators and purchasing the game also means supporting these people. People in forums say to just pirate the game, but I don't really feel like installing a bunch of malware on my system.

Congrats, you helped fund corporate theft from creatives. I hope you appreciate your actions being reflected in the themes of the game.
I'm sorry, but I just had to take a quick look at what kind of stuff you own. Are you 100% sure with your library of 855 or so games that you never purchased anything that wasn't made with at least a little bit of stain? Like, are you that sure about it? You have AC games which come from Ubisoft that is regarded as one of the worst companies in the US. God knows how much crap is coming from their HQ

Stop being so butthurt over other people buying ACTUALLY good games

You can get banned by game devs themselves for calling their game bad or not working properly. This has already happened. Devs, on their power trip would just ban everyone in their game hub who would dare criticize their game, and this happened right here on Steam

I got perma ban from Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk hubs for saying that I would just "sail the high seas"

Also, insinuating that a certain game can be obtained for free is kinda promoting it. Many people do not even realize they can sail the high seas until you point them in that direction

Also, any talk of emulation is frowned upon. Doesnt matter if its legal or illegal games you are emulating, you just don't talk about it. Those are the rules

it's interesting that talk of emulation is frowned upon, given that Retroarch is freely available on Steam.

and just stating the existence that something exists doesn't mean i'm "promoting" it.

if there is someone who is so out of the loop that they don't even know about the P word, me saying "you know such and such can be gotten other places . . for free, with a simple google search" is not promoting the p-word.

if anything it's only suggesting that people use the google search engine to find out for themselves.

I mean, how do they know that "getting it for free" means "stealing it".
ya know there exist places to legit get games for free, without stealing them. there are whole forums devoted to finding "free" deals on games.

if you go to most of the popular games store pages in steam and scroll down to the reviews section, you will see many of them have a disclaimer above them saying "product recieved for free".
apparently, there are legit ways for people to get steam games for free.

in fact, of you look at the reviews section for THIS game, one of the reviews has this disclaimer on it.

and if if i was talking about the P word, just talking about something isn't "promoting" it.

if I say "ya know, people unsubscribe themselves from life all the time" , that doesn't mean i'm promoting suicide or encouraging people to go out and do it.

if someone is that mentally ill that they didn't even know that was an option until i made them aware of it on a public forum with an innocuous figure of speech, how is it my fault?
The Emulators themselves are NOT illegal its the games and BIOS files that are.

From the little I've read the company isn't doing well as they've had a number project cancellations and recently laid off 25% of their staff. The DE IP may reappear one day but with a different company so there's hope yet.

Im not sure i would trust anyone else to make a sequel just like this. Plenty of games with choices but nothing as interesting as this one.

Mass Effect Trilogy/ Legendary Edition literally allows you to make choices in 1st game affecting the 3rd. If that's not interesting enough I don't know what is.

But you are right, there's not that many games like the ones we have with choices, primarily because making them is quite challenging and most devs don't want to brainstorm various ideas for different outcomes as they can just easily sell the idea of a linear game and make millions off of it

I literally do not care about the hostile takeover situation. It's honestly not my problem. I'm not an activist; I shouldn't expect to be one on Steam. If you read my review, you'll see that I'm here to play cool video games, and if that means buying them from scumbags, then so be it.

Believe me, this is actually a reasonable take, no matter what these activists will tell you. They will sit here on this game hub, without even buying the game, telling others not to buy it too

Joke's on them, though. During the last summer sale, DE was always in top 100 bestsellers on steam. And for an old game, that's gotta be something

Don't feel bad for buying good games, feel bad for wasting your money on expensive garbage games

It's a perfectly valid position to take as long as you accept (and I hope you do) that others may not share that opinion. Personally I feel that the problem wasn't that they got rid of the original dev's (that's how things go in businesses) wasn't the problem it was that fraud was used to obtain a majority share holding. That does influence my buying choices.
