Have you found a solution?
So I bought a book and read the same book over and over and over again for 11 hours straight, it took less than 10 minutes real time. Now I can go and do a Day 2 evening task and then go to sleep to see if the bridge is repaired in the morning.
Garte tells you flat out on Day 1 that you need to pay him 20 real everyday to enter the hotel. You buying stuff frivolously, like books, was a mistake.
Admittedly, this was a discussion point in the past that I still have problems with. From a design perspective it's pretty horrible that you can't hobocop yourself to sleep on a bench with some debuff for the next day, due to bad sleeping posture and poor decision-making skills.
But alas nothing was really addressed on this Day 2 softlock. Your only real solution would be to scrounge around for cash in nearby apartments, or restarting the game to an older savestate. Or starting all over.
