I'm confused, what is the point of this game?
Reviews like to highlight the story's willingness to target any and all ideologies, concluding the pointlessly obvious that "Extremism of any kind is bad' ... and being so obvious would be fine if the writers made any attempt to provide solutions, but apparently even centrism isn't safe. So what's the point? Why write such a nihilistic story where you say extremism is bad and also there's nothing you can do about it???

The story isn't nihilistic at all. A big theme of it is hope and recovery. The game also has pretty obvious leftist sentiments. Maybe try playing it to get a better picture?

It doesn't really have leftist sentiments unless you consider literally any kind of effort to improve the lives of working class people "leftist" - in which case, sure.

It's so baffling seeing people reduce this game to "communist propaganda" (which is false), when it's a pretty well thought game and has plenty of touching and hopeful moments.

Yes, despite the leftist view of its creatores, it mocks all ideologies, but still finds its way to tell you something good about them or the people that represent them (well, except fascism but tbh, fascists can go f themselves).

And yes, despite being a dark story full of cynism set in a distopian world, it's also a story of hope. There are plenty of moments where you can show kindness to very troubled people, making their life a little better, and where people encourage you to be a better person and show you that you're not so bad after all. My favorite moment has to be when you succeed at the logic roll to deduce why your district sent you to investigate the case, and you deduce that your coworkers sent you to mock you because they think you're a joke. Kim then tells you that he honestly thinks that they sent you because you're a safe bet, and if they didn't, they are in for a surprise .

Most gamers are borderline illiterate, don't take their literary interpretations too seriously. The game is not nihilistic and is in fact pretty favourable towards extremism in the abstract, in opposition to limiting yourself to the "reasonable" or "sensible".

reviewers and media misrepresented this game as political when it isn't, and very little of the game's world has to do with our current politics. that being said, in the beginning of the game, there are about 3 or so hard leftist virtue signals that are immersion breaking and inappropriately break the 4th wall in my opinion. these seemed shoe horned in.

as the game progresses, you can find out that the source of communism in the game's world was a prion brain disease.

Im also confused. 54 Minutes in and soooo many conversation options already and i still dont have a clue if i chose good, bad or neutral and if it actually had some serious consequences. Or in other words, i have no clue if a second playthrough would be any different, except some text, if i had chosen other options.

It's not a nihilistic game, it just understands the alienation of our time and the sense of helplessness it comes with. The game is made by communists yes, but who don't glorify it, instead they even make fun of it.
The world in this game doesn't have history, it is history, which is why the ideological paths you take don't provide you with any catharsis. They all have or have had a place in this world, and helped shape it, for good and bad.
Best you can do in the game is try to help some people a bit, maybe even yourself. Because even if the city you wander in is still frozen in the postwar state of despair, it still lives. The workers are striking, the dicemaker is making a living, the old men are playing their game etc.
The game is very sad, most endings you get are sad as well, but still filled me with a lot of hope. Maybe not for the world, but for our fellow humans living in its decay.

Just push through and play another run if you wanna do things differently...
These kinds of games are ruined by pre-planning too much and checking every single guide video on youtube

Yep. You're gonna miss more by trying to do everything in one run than you would by playing the game without a guide. Additional runs don't take that long once you know what you're doing and can recognize the dialogue you've heard before.

This is a game about failure. Doing everything right the first time is doing it wrong.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
