"Detective mode" on or off?

I finally got the game and ready to start, but I am not sure if Detective mode is more like an easy mode that highlights everything? Should I go with it or without?

If it's what I'm thinking of, then as I understand it it just highlights interactable objects (if your skills would be high enough to notice them anyway) when you're close enough, as opposed to needing to hold Tab? Haven't actually played since it was added. If you think holding Tab is an easy mode (some do), then this is slightly less easy, since you'd actually need to walk up to things yourself. But then you can just hold Tab anyway, so.

Mostly there for console/gamepad players, I think.
