Report a translation problem
It's probably got something to do with Proton.
I've play this game on proton 7.0.3 but I haven't got this problem.
Other than that then perhaps it's the game itself. Disco Elysium is not a Linux native. Meaning, if you play on Deck/Proton, if it not function as it did on windows, there got to be something wrong with Deck or Proton.
I could be wrong tho.
Refer to the game's Cloud category on steamdb; the cloud syncs all files in both AppData/LocalLow/ZAUM Studio/Disco Elysium/SaveGames (where save data is stored, and what should be the ONLY THING SYNCED), as well as Disco Elysium/Settings (which should not be synced under any circumstance). This was a manual decision.

Of course all of this could be fixed if Valve let people manually configure cloud behaviors to fix developers' mistakes - something that they refuse to do for absolutely no reason.
