Are the dice meant to work more than once?

I bought dice from the dicemaker, and re-set a bunch of the checks.
I then managed to get stuck again, saved up for more dice, managed to pass enough time to get them made, and, this time none of the checks got re-set.
So, I'm stuck and soft-locked from progressing.
Are you supposed to be able to use the dice more than once?

They only unlock checks when you first get them, by giving you a bonus to that check. Different dice unlock different checks, but you can only commission one set of dice from her, other than the police dice she gives you for free if you ask her when you first meet. And there are other dice you can find, like the one in the Wirral set at the bookshop.
