I can't save.
I've been playing for a few hours, and in that time, 'save game' and 'load game' have always been greyed out. I'd like to take a break, and shut the game down, but I'm afraid of losing all my progress.

Same issue here. Played for what seems to be hours, died and went to load my autosaves and there is nothing. This sucks....

Ok a little more information for the devs... (And might help others regain a little of their game)

I looked in the save game folder, the very first auto save files were there (.json and .lua files) but not zipped up in the correct format.

So the game was able to write to the folder but failed at this point for some reason. And then never tried or was able to save again.

I zipped them up manually, comparing to a new save created from running the game in admin mode. My recovered autosave loaded fine.

So now instead of losing 3 hours I've only lost 2 hours... D:

Guys this is really unacceptable... I spent a solid 6 hours playing and now I have NOTHING to show for it. How did this pass testing?!

Yep - admin worked after reinstalling the game.

Game crashed after 3 hours and I thought it also deleted all my save files, but reading how I could prevent the loss if I knew about it feels really bad. For me it would've been a reason to refund but I'm over the 2h mark so I guess I just wait for some patches...:/

i tried multiple times to load a savegame but the button is also in the admin mode greyed out. would help if someone could describe which zip formating he used and what the naming convention is. And for the devs, is there any timeline when you will release a potential hotfix? my playtime is still allowing a refund i really would like to not do it!

Same problem here. Can't save even in admin mode. Haven't tried reintalling (and I'm hoping I don't really have to) The game is superb, but this is a really bad issue. Hope you can adress it soon.

Check your player.log at User/AppData/LocalLow/Zaum Studio/Disco Elysium, if you have that line:

"TimeZoneNotFoundException: Exception of type 'System.TimeZoneNotFoundException' was thrown"

then its a unity bug. You should open Control Panel/Date and Time and choose your time zone.

I don't have that but a ton of

"(Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Runtime/Export/Debug/Debug.bindings.h Line: 48)

You wanted to get open slot, but there are no more open slots to return!"

and

"Failed to create agent because it is not close enough to the NavMesh

(Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Modules/AI/Components/NavMeshAgent.cpp Line: 648)"

If you have c:\buildslave\whatever in your log, the C: path in the error message refers to the Unity developer's environment, not your own environment. I'm guessing you don't have a c:\buildslave directory. You shouldn't, unless you develop stuff with Unity. When "something" in the game was built on the devs machine, it logged those paths when that particular object was built. The message "Failed to create agent because it is not close enough to the NavMesh" is coming from Unity, and is nothing specific to the Disco Elysium game. Nav Mesh means navigation mesh. For example if you were making a game and you placed an NPC beyond a boundary of the mesh, you'd get this kind of message.

Bottom line is that this game appears to be lacking major QA testing.

I'm also at a dead end with saving and quickly losing interest. I believe I'm hosed after 40 hours into this game but I guess I'll keep tabs on this thread in case anyone discovers any groundbreaking fixes.

Not sure what to do, other than file a dispute with my credit card company.

Edit: After backtracking a bit I narrowed it down to completing (internalizing) the Guillaume Le Million. If I let it complete, then I can't save. So in my case I guess I can never complete the thought. Broken game. $40 for this?

Hi there, we haven't seen anything like this before. Is it possible you can report this issue here - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeGizVkDIXcCe6qlJmbhZ6dwVBB2GT9ivGGJ3JRJp4YdLjoGg/viewform?usp=sf_link
Have you also tried quick saving? And the game hasn't autosaved at all?
I had the same problem and it occurred after leveling up.
I have the same problem at the day 4, immidiately after i spoke to that zoologist guy with traps or whatever the f he is. The thing is I did not realise its not saving so I played good 6-7 hours completing almost every side quest there is. I said ok never mind ill try again. But to my surprise the same thing happened. ♥♥♥♥ this.

If anyone is still looking for the answer for this, I think I have it:

DO NOT INTERNALIZE "INSULINDIAN MIRACLE". I have no idea why, but you can't save after your character acquires it. So just avoid it until the bug is fixed.

If you are already internalizing that thought, don't panic. You can open the thoughts menu, select Insulindian Miracle and press "stop". Then internalize something else. This will save you from a lot of headache wondering why the hell you can't save 20 hours into the game.

Got a similar problem and it turns out that having a thought that was finished but not yet "validated" did prevent the game from saving
