Censored Words Question
I've just started the game and whilst talking to Cunno for the first time, I noticed the four lettered swear word that starts with F and ends in K was on occasion censored but at other times during the same conversation not censored.

I found this strange.

Just wondering, if there's swearing throughout (and I imagine there is) can I turn off the static sound that censors words or is this done for some effect that's lost on me?

EDIT: Just noticed the "word" is censored *sigh & chuckle* so I'll try to reword the thread appropriately as to not lose any meaning.

It is. You may or may not come across what's actually being censored in your playthrough. But I think the intended effect is just that that term strikes your character as unusually offensive, for some reason. Why? Because it's a kid saying it? Some association you can't remember through your amnesia? Like a lot of things in the game, I think the speculation is kind of the point. Making that harsh static sound makes the word stand out in a way that it actually wouldn't otherwise.

Okay, ta for answering and your input.

I won't lie, it still feels odd - at least in that one particular conversation - because as I initially typed, the four lettered swear word that starts with F and ends in K wasn't always censored. The two kids also made a false claim of being too friendly in regards to touching and feeling plus used of the four lettered swear word that starts with D and ends with K (might have been more words but I can't remember them all) so I would've imagined all of this would have been censored for the same reason that you allude.

That said, I've just started the game so naturally the full effect of A, B and C might not hit me until later. You've given me food for thought which is awesome, ta for that.

EDIT: I've reworded the thread as appropriate due to Steam censoring words but I have done so - I hope - in a manner that doesn't lose any meaning. It genuinely never crossed my mind that Steam would do that.

Oh, wait. F**k? Huh. I don't think I noticed that one being censored. I was thinking of f****t.

Yeah F ending in a K not the other one. It was definitely censored at least twice talking to Cunno but as I said, not at all times. Well, I suppose unless there's another four lettered word that starts with F and ends with K that I don't know about (that isn't meant as shade despite perhaps reading like it).
Nah, it's okay. Should've read the original post more closely. If it's not f*g, then I don't know.

It's actually possible to turn the censorship in Steam off, I think, somewhere in the options? I think I did it once, but I haven't bothered since. Censorship bleeping is kind of funny to me.

Thanks for letting me know there's an option to change it around if I ever take the notion.

yeah, like Thimbleweed Park, it makes it funnier. Also we don't know what they are censoring because for example ♥♥♥♥ is not a really strong word like the ones that we imagine that are censored for some reason. It's a good way to make us understand that their world despite being similar to ours, there are differences.
