Do internalised thoughts have hidden effects?
Do internalised thoughts have effects other than the ones listed? Does internalising Mazovian Socio-Economics make me more communist, for example?

Mazovian thought adds you new comunist line dialogs, and if you choose any comunist line you'll obtain +4 exp, so yes, the thoughts can bring you new experiences.

various thoughts unlock dialogue options, as far as i'm aware none of them cause meaningfully different outcomes to scenes though. the political thoughts seem to be most common for this, though other notable ones (more than one line) i know of are being a feminist, knowing your age (harry mentions it at every opportunity after learning it), and having an art degree

'finger on the eject button' unlocks an optional game over, unsurprisingly

The thing about the thought cabinet that I don’t understand (or isn’t obvious/not very well explained) is what the electricity between you and the thoughts means.

Do you only get the benefits of the thought if you’re currently connected to that thought as indicated by the animated electricity? Does that mean you can’t get the benefits of all completed or internalised thoughts at the same time?

I presume also that if you forget a thought that you have to learn it again from scratch. You can’t simply swap out thoughts to free up slots in order to level others up without losing progress on the ones you remove (or “de-internalise”)? Is he that brain-damaged that he can’t retain knowledge easily (probably, lol)?

This is by far the most confusing aspect of the game for me, which is otherwise fairly simple and easy to follow.

the 'connections' between thoughts are just visual flair, they don't matter. you benefit/suffer from all internalised thoughts, all the time

forgetting a thought disables it entirely but frees up the slot to replace it. there's no 'swapping out' thoughts. there's not much reason to forget a thought unless it has a negative effect you really want to get rid of, or if youve entirely filled the thought cabinet (unlikely in one playthrough if you're vaguely selective and not internalising everything).

think of thoughts as 'perks' in a traditional RPG sense, rather than 'items'.

How can you not internalise everything? It's impossible to know what bonus a thought will give until after you've done so.

i personally take it as an avenue for roleplay, only internalising thoughts that are relevant to the character of that playthrough's harry

Thanks for explaining this.

Many of the thoughts do add bonuses to some skill-checks, if not outright pass them.
