Does this game work well on M1 Macs?
See title for question.

Thank you!

According to this link, it appears to run perfectly fine.

https://www.applegamingwiki.com/wiki/M1_compatible_games_master_list

That site also claims that the Mac App Store version is optimised for the M1. I can’t imagine why the Steam version wouldn’t be if the Mac App Store version is. Did Apple Pay to do the optimisation and therefore it’s only available in an optimised format there? I can’t see ZAUM agreeing to that.

At any rate, it looks like you’ll be just fine under Rosetta 2.

Another source lists it as M1 native: https://www.macgamerhq.com/apple-m1/native-mac-m1-games/ But comments in this YouTube video again say that only the Mac App Store version is M1 native: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9Ib458puks
Whether that's still the case I don't know, but I'd assume it is. It's bizarre to me if they have an M1 optimised version why they wouldn't also make it available on Steam. Why would they maintain two separate versions of the app for Mac and deny M1 Mac owners the best possible experience of their game when they use Steam? I think ZAUM owes Mac users an explanation as to why the Steam version (apparently) lags behind MAS in compatibility support.

SuperKebab, you could always buy and refund it to check the state of the Steam version.

Keep in mind that Rosetta 2 is supposed to be quite good and there may not be much difference in performance between it and a native M1 version, but it's still unusual and unclear why they don't just publish the same app to each (MAS DRM aside, which is a lot more strict than Steam's DRM and one of the key advantages of buying on Steam).

Thanks a LOT for your kind help! :))

Apparently this is a steam limitation, which tries to run the game through proton. Larian and company had a workaround to make Baldur's Gate 3 work, but it wasn't straightforward.

This video talks about it if you're interested, cut to 2mins in if you're interested in how they did it only. The developers of this game would have to make a similar fix and it might not be feasible for them.
