Can you play this game as a good cop?
This game is suppose to support many ways of playing. Could you play this game with a roleplay in mind of a good cop, and solve cases without resorting to things a good cop wouldn't do?

There isn't really any morality system in the game per se. You can choose to be professional, not abusing substances, taking the case seriously, avoiding weird dialogue options, etc.

No such thing as a good cop, the game is very realistic in that respect

It really depends on what your idea of a good cop is. You can play a lawful cop, who's overly lawful saying things like "I AM THE LAW" or something similar, you can play a authoritarian cop who's strict, and by the book, and always flexing his power.

Or you can play a "good" cop in an emotional sense, a empathetic cop who feels for people, and will do what he can to help them because he feels for the people.

You could even play a logical cop who's "Good" in the sense that he points out all the logical fallicies in criminals, or something.

I played a pretty good investigator, a cop down on his luck who's trying to pull himself together during the course of the game. A few odd conversation bits did entice me enough to get people questioning my sanity, but for the most part I was a 'good cop' in my playthrough and managed just fine.

Something to keep in mind while playing this game - it's all about the journey, not the end. Don't feel like you need to hurry the investigation along too much, as figuring out the 'mystery' is not the real point of the game.

Yes, in the sense that you can be a very by the books cop. However you'll very quickly learn that that's incredibly hard to do. You can be the cop that never breaks any law, catches anyone who does and arrests them without question, and become a case solving machine. But being that flawless detective might lead to undesirable paths, like an immoral action or something that you know will ruin many lives if you play by the rules.

So, yes, it's possible to do that, and it's absolutely worth experiencing that route of the game, but don't expect the outcomes to be perfect for you.

Yeah, in my first playthrough I was determined to get this washed up drunkard back on his feet. I sobered him up, worked hard on the case, tried to make amends to those he had crossed, and generally the game would account for this trajectory accordingly. At the end, it was acknowledged that you had made strides in straightening the character out.

Not everyone lives in ♥♥♥♥ holes like America. Though you living In Germany where the police generally don't have the policy of gunning people down as a first response while still keeping this kind of position about regular police patrolmen is kind of telling.

Come on man, ease up. All he's saying is that much like in real life, the characters in DE don't neatly fall within naive binary parameters of good or evil.

Nah if you actually live in the real world engaging with other living human beings you would notice that most people are just regular people trying to live their lives and the horrendous ♥♥♥♥ you hear about is a minority of people. The issues are significant enough to be a problem, but In general people are decent folks and so are most educated cops who went into law enforcement to help people.

I'm really tired of misanthropist worldviews that are popularly spewed by the "thinkers" on internet forums when that doesn't match the life of regular every day people living their unremarkable but decent lives.

Volition, empathy and esprit the corps skills will help you gain other peoples trust and affection, they all fall under the PSYCHE statistic, so pump that high at character generation, throw in good INTELLECT for investigation work, some MOTORICS to avoid being a goofy slug and the basics are covered.

Then it's up to your roleplaying will and skills.

That... that was sort of exactly my point, dude.

Yes, we certainly could do with less of that...

You can try to play "by the book", but you are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at the start of the game that it's hard not to be a mess of a person.
