Ruby just kills me - what?

Spoilers obviously... I finally found Ruby in the basement of the building - but she just kills me with her white noise generator. I have no options to do anything - she just drops me dead every time. THAT's the end of this game? I feel like I must be missing something here - like a pair of noise canceling earphones or something - but haven't come upon any yet. I was thinking it had something to do with the silence in the church but that quest played out and I still have no way not to die when I encounter Ruby. I looked up a solution on the web and people seem to describe having options when they are attacked by Ruby's white noise generator but I have none. It's just game over. What am I missing?

Drink alcohol before facing her so that you have more health.

its really stupid, and kim doesnt even actually offer anything so his requirement makes no sense

She doesn't want to kill Kim since she thinks he might actually be a good cop, so that gives you a temporary stay of execution, that's all. His presence means she doesn't just kill you on sight.
