I think many here would like to see a straight up, yes or no answer on whether you plan on jumping ship to Epic Store?
2020 is going to be a crazy year for Steam/GoG releases, and all of them are going to be so damn polished too! Mechwarrior 5 just went exclusive and Iron Harvest is strongly hinting at it, but will give GoG/Steam keys to anyone already in beta, so meh.
My only concern is that these boyz will try to come back home to Steam/GoG and offer their year-old games at full price.
Gonna be interesting to see what happens...
Not that it wil really matter. Cyberpunk, Bloodlines, and Baldur's Gate 3 coming out that year too so eh.
I'm not sure if that is a good sign, or a bad sign. I guess we might know tonight...
It kind of sucks that these days I actually cannot look forward to big game shows, as I mostly have to worry about which soon to be released game I'm looking forward to (or in some cases backed at a crowdfunding site) will be turned into an EGS exclusive...
There was closed beta early this year in Steam. So considering that a small number of people already have, supposedly, the game on Steam this makes an exclusivity deal with Epic somewhat unlikely in my opinion. Disco sure is a game of sufficient caliber to make Epic interested in my opinion. But with all the controversy on the Epic store going Epic exclusive would be like soiling oneself in my opinion - a warm feeling for a short time - but then it gets cold, wet and other people think you smell of urine.
I believe that after the early 2019 closed beta they just might have decided they needed more time to address all the stuff found and rather than burn themselves out by a unsustainably long sprint/crunch they might have done the hard decision of taking enough time to the needed things without killing their devs in the process.
Based on what I have seen so far - this is, in my opinion, one of the few gusts of fresh air in the genre in an otherwise bleak landscape of things doing same things with little to no fresh ideas. Getting it to the point where technical issues are not ruining the experience is the right decision, I think. I am sure looking forward for the release of this game. Whenever this happens.
They were adamant about not being able to promise anything else (and most people didn't even believe that promise as it smelled of trying to sell early access). What made it worse was that their publisher has made nearly every other one of their games an EGS exclusive.
They eventually announced not being exclusive, but we don't know whether it's because they fault or Epic simply laughed at their game; they refuse to comment about it.
My point is that we're sadly in a state that until you ACTUALLY HAVE THE GAME ON STEAM then you can't safely believe anyone - not even the devs.
Having a beta on steam does not exclude it from being an EGS exclusive as many other games like Metro Exodus show us. Likewise, they could very likely be approached weeks before release, again like Exodus, and swap gears.
Until you're playing it on Steam we're always going to be i doubt /shrug.
Thanks for that, it's nice to hear something official! Your game looks great, and I hope that launch will happen in the not too distant future :)
