Help me enjoy this game! :(
I am really trying hard to enjoy this game, since I like unconventional, crazy stuff - but even as a person who loves weird storys and Francis Bacon inspired artwork, I am having a hard time to enjoy the game. The skills wont do much for me, the dialogues are sometimes funny, but often simply too weird, and absolutely not pushing the story foward. I am not interested in the history of this fictional world, I want the story to develop.

I have been playing now for about 4 hours, reached the point of the first night (Hotel wont let me sleep since I have not enough money) - is there anything more happening soon?!?

Am I the only one who thinks this games is utterly overrated?

Thanks for opinions!

I have just passed two and a half days, can not say I have had the same experience. Maybe the problem is you're not interested in he fictional world, I see it the world in this game as a character and enjoy it thoroughly. For me the plot has been steadily progressing.. maybe this is just not your type of game? Maybe you should try different stuff out? But yeah, if it; too weird for you then it's too weird for you.

I am at the pawnshop now and got some military drug. Will obviously take the drugs and hope it will be more fun, just as in the real world... :D

Honestly, and this isn't supposed to be rude, it's probably just not the game for you.

It's the story of a man with literal brain damage, so the first few hours in particular are as much about exploring your own mind as Martinaise. If you lean into the weirdness and see where it takes you, you do find that it's not just weird for weirdness' sake. It's setting a mood, establishing your character.

You're already on drugs, coming off of speed and alcohol, is the thing. That's part of why things are so weird. You're not fully in control of yourself.

If you aren't interested in the history of the world, then you will not like the game and there aren't really anything anyone here can do to "help" you enjoy it. The history of the world is the story.

Nothing wrong with that. Not every game is for everyone. You shouldn't try to force yourself to enjoy a game you obviously don't like and you certainly shouldn't be begging people on the internet to help you. Just move on and play something that you do enjoy.

I'm not interested about the history of this world, playing a guy who tries to get out of the ♥♥♥♥ and his comfort zone.

Love to be shellshocked and crazed, but I try to focus on a great portion of humility, focused psyche skills and physique skills, love the dialogues and the emotions which run through this man at the edge of his downfall.

the sadness of the music, the bitter smiles, the emotions carry the game for me, not very interested in names and places, like in reality

in short, I go with the flow and I'm already submerged

Well if it hasn't gripped you by now, it probably won't (I was completely hooked when I reached the first night).

I think the game is somewhat overrated. Those 10s shouldn't have been given out. 10 is for a game that does everything perfectly.
If I were to give it a rating a 7.5 sounds about right.
However if you aren't enjoying the game it probably isn't the game for you. It's like a choose your own adventure book with an isometric top down GUI and some voice acting.
I however enjoy choose your own adventure stuff. I loved it when the Kai books were released on android (and probably IOS) as much better version than the book type deals.
If you like Disco Elysium Kai Chronicles is probably something you should look into. A completely free (no ads, no purchases) mobile 'game' which essentially adds an interface to what used to be choose your own adventure novels. I had great fun reading/playing it on public transport and the like, though it is nowhere near as deep and branching when compared to DE.

.

Now that I've finished it I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10. A few bugs and Typos keep it from being a full 10/10 but I had a glorious time with it. I enjoyed it more than The Outer Worlds which was up to the time I started this game my game of the year.

Thanks for all your input. I will certainly play through the first night, and then see what happens. Maybe there is a turning point for me as well!

Have you played Observer yet? Talk about cool and weird! Observer reminds me of a Philip K. D1ck novel come to life.

the "choices" you have are all so cringe and stereotyped that you cant even choose and the story feels liek written by a kid and can by summed up in one written page. so.. yeah.. this game is for pretentious millennials that think they are deep and dont know real politics or life.

lol, everything is shallow, until you drown in your own, for someone else ankledeep, sea.

do you want to read elaborate tractates in a game?

well perhaps.
