multiple saves?

hi,
is there a way to have multiples saves?
as soon as i click start new game it seems to delete my old character.
since the other character was one i had been playing for several hours and the new character was just suposed to be to show my partner the begining of the game, it was pretty disapointing to find that my character from before is gone.

is this the save system as intended?
is there a way around it if i want to show somone else the game without deleting my character, or if my partner or kid want to start their own playthrough?

Hmm I've not tried clicking on new game however you can back up your save files.
The save location is:

USERPROFILE% \AppData\LocalLow\ZAUM Studio\Disco Elysium\SaveGames\

So copy the saves from there, paste them into a separate folder and you should be able to load and save games depending what you paste into the save folder.

once i start the game a steam loading window pops up saying "preparing to launch"
then i literaley watched the save files be replaced by the old save files.
i asume this is some sort of backup thing steam does automaticaley?

is there a way that i stop it from doing that?
