I've heard about your version and I have some doubts because I also saw people claim it isn't true. But even if it is, spray was not the only possible modifier I saw on youtube. I should at least have the one for the phasmid questline and I have none.
And if the spray is indeed the necessary requirement, then I'm even more annoyed. Because that's actually the SECOND friggin' time I miss on some important worldbuilding because of not wanting to do a thing that seemed too eccentric (first was when I didn't want to talk to Lena about my amnesia, and because of that missed the whole pale explanation forever).
This game really isn't made for those who want to roleplay a more serious cop.
I'm pretty sure it's not a glitch. I also didn't accept the spray in my playthrough and got the 'Impossible' Electrochemistry check - it was fixed on 3% success regardless of my skill points (no modifiers either even though I did talk with Lena and stuff).
I take it by 'serious cop' you mean case/duty focused? Then it sounds like - from what you've said - you successfully roleplayed as one. Of course, the price of that is missing out some interactions I guess. Pretty normal part of playing this game to me.
Well, that sucks. I'll try savescumming for a bit, I'll guess, but if it's a special case, the check just might be intentionally unwinnable.
You see, it's not just "some interactions", it's learning about a key aspect of the in-game world and going through an important encounter that really makes the ending (or so I've heard).
And the thing is, the game does better on other similar occasions: for example, you can get your gun from Evrart without really going through with the sketchy things he asks of you. But here - you just can't get any of those interactions without doing the specific wacky thing, and both of those possibilities can be "lost forever".
I already felt that my possibilities to roleplay were very limited, because you simply can't be serious-but-charismatic, like Kim. All the dialog choices are either intentionally eccentric, or straight-to-the-point and boring. And now this.
Yeah, I get it, role-playing some crazy cop is the main selling point of the game, but why make the serious route so bland and full of skippable content? That's my one complaint about an otherwise excellent game.
Sorry for rambling, but this whole situation got me pretty annoyed in the end.
No problem, that's unfortunate...
I'm afraid I can't relate since - although I missed the deep interaction with the phasmid as well - it was still the most powerful moment in the game for me (being a skeptic and suddenly seeing it appear...). But yeah, I would've loved to see other way(s) to have that interaction.
