Hi. My video card died while playing the game and the game got corrupted. Even with another card I would find myself in a black screen with random colored smoke after the loading icon. I've seen that other people had this problem and found a solution. You have to delete the files in the user's folder after backing up the savegames. Then, disable the cloud in steam and start the game. The game should work again, you can now put the backed up files in the folder and you are good to go. I hope it helps.

To add onto this, after doing this, i still ended up having graphical issues. The only way the game runs without textures disappearing or the whole world looking like a checkerboard is to have Environment FX set to high and Shader Quality set to its maximum setting. it impacts performance, but at least it runs on this crappy old laptop.
