Launching issues
Hi there. I dunno why, the game suddendly started giving me problems at launch, after a few hours into it, and i can't seem to get it started again. I already filed a bug report to the devs through official means, but in case anyone has had the same issue maybe you can give me a pointer or something.
After launching the game i never get to the main menu, i stop at a foggy coloured screen and nothing else happens. I tried everything i could think of, like reinstalling after manually deleting Laum studio folders, updating drivers, changing settings through Nvidia control panel, I'm really sad.

I literally just had the same problem occur. Can't get the menu to come up, its just a weird fog like screen.
At least i'm not the only one XD. I guess you have no clue as how to solve the problem?

Hey I just got it fixed. So go to C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Locallow\ZAUM Studio\Disco Elysium\Settings. Delete the Settings.json file. Restart the game and you should be good now.
It doesn't work for me but thx for the tip anyway

For me there were a couple of times when the title splash just took a really long time to load, but I thought that was just my old laptop. I know what you're talking about with the fog.

I cant seem to find that .json file thingy though it might be as I have my steam library saved to drive D as thats the one with more storage for my games. But yes I also have the fog screen thing

Im encountering this issue too. I was able to delete the json file and turn off the cloud save for the game. It still crashes at the black swirly screen. Did i do something wrong? I turned off the cloud save first before deleting the json file.

Currently using Intel i7 8700 and UHD 630 w/ 4gb ram

I don't know about that but, even if it's a pain, i suggest you try to uninstall steam entirely and try to start the game again with cloud saves turned off, it's the only thing i can think of..

I turned off the cloud save in settings and the game did go to the main menu, but then I rebooted the game later and it paused again on that smoke screen... I actaully left to get a drink and left the game load. When I came back the screen was at the main menu! so just wait a while and it should go to the main menu!

So I bought a game two days ago. Cannot start it. Same issue as in original description - the game won't load. I see foggy screen, the frame freezes. I can hear the music, but when I go to Task Manager the is in status 'not responding' .I have disabled the Cloud saves, reinstalled the game, waited for couple minutes to see if the menu will load eventually as Solfinder mentioned - no success. Not sure what Laum Folder is and cannot locate it on the drive where the game is installed nor anywhere else. Please help

Bump

Help, I can't get to launch screen and this folder does not exist in my C Drive
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Locallow\ZAUM Studio\Disco Elysium\Settings

searched Settings.json and no such file exists on my PC under this game and already turned off cloud save.

I've been having the exact same problem. I've verified the game files, deleted the .json file, also modified the shortcut by adding " -window" to make sure the game opens in windowed mode... Once I got the game to start and I turned down all possible graphics settings, and was able to play the game for about an hour before it stopped responding, and every time I've tried since it goes back to not responding during the 'smoky' startup screen. Some have suggested using CTRL+ALT+DEL to open Task Manager and right click the Task Manager window to keep 'Always on Top' and alternate between it and the game window. This hasn't seemed to help either. I have cloud saves turned off both in Steam Settings and in Disco Elysium settings, but every time I try to start the game it just creates a new settings.json file, so it doesn't sound like this is a viable solution. This is very frustrating. If anyone hears of any other tips please let me know, thanks.

I have the same problem. And the problem solutions that were suggested here, unfortunately, did not help me either.
