For a comparison, Witcher 3 counts 450.000 words.
Disco Elysium counts more than 1.000.000.

There are options for different font sizes.

Graphomania is not a good thing.

Oh but hypochondria by proxy is instead a really nice and elegant approach to any conversation, keep that fully loaded for tonight, you'll be the soul of the party.

Even thou Witcher has less words, its writing is better than Disco's graphomania.

Say whatever you want, I didn't played Witcher 3, my pc is a potato, and I know it's very good but we were talking about quantity here, not quality, if you didn't like DE writing, well, too bad for you.

And thats the problem.
People know that its text heavy, but the game didn't need to be this heavy.
If the game was written better, that wouldn't be a problem, but right now, it feels like 30-40% of the text was written just for the sake of it. If dev's would cut it, the game would just benefit from this, because what's left, is pretty good.

I felt like i was reading Stanislaw Lem's works, but in a bad way.

I've genuinely enjoyed every line of it. To me it didn't feel like graphomania or indulgence. Unlike the soul reading, or whatever it's called, from Pillars of Eternity.
edit: to be fair that was there as a backer reward, so who am I to complain?

That's YOUR problem.

I've never been able to force myself to play Disco Elysium spiritual ancestor (as everybody like to say -_-), Planescape Torment, because it's too detailed and committed to "visionary high fantasy" for me and I struggle to adapt to the weirdness of it's setting, it tires me in a matter of minutes.

But that never triggered me to label the game's writing "graphomania", it's Just personal taste, not the game's fault.

The Devs were free to pursue their vision of the game, and you are free to dislike their commitment to that vision.

OP just asked

text heavy?

Yes was already said, so I added to it offering a comparison. You just unleashed personal frustration.

Yes, but they are virtually all interactive dialogues that are well written. This is not an action game.

The Witcher series games are far more action games than this game is. My only real criticisms of this game are with respect to how the few action scenes are handled, not with any of the writing.
This is straght-up a point n' click visual novel with RPG skills. If you don't want to read you're gonna hate this.

I have to agree, the game tries to force the whole universe upon you with a million of dialogs about how everything is and why. Its simply too much filler text for such an unimportant thing, that could be told other ways. Why should my character care about the whole origin of the universe... He's a drug addict and a alcoholic ffs

The character cares because the character has amnesia and knows nothing. And you seem to be missing something, namely that the character might seem to be a drug addict and alcoholic, but what they really are is up to you. It is not even completely clear at the end of the game what they really were before the opening sequences of the game.

Fair game if that is not your kind of thing, but it seems like you took the opening at face value and never looked or thought beyond it. Your decisions may not have any significant effect on the case, but they have a very significant effect on how your character ends up.
