Defrosting the freezer?

When you fail the physical instrument check to open up the ice cream freezer, the game implies that you should just come back later when it's done defrosting, OR bulk up some more. As I was playing a 1 PHYS character, my odds of opening it up were very low even with the +3 from the defrosting and wearing gloves; so I was fine with just waiting.

I came back an entire in-game day later, and nothing changed - I eventually had to put a point into physical instrument and savescum just so I could keep doing the church quest. I guess my question is - WILL the freezer ever completely defrost over time? Like if I'd unplugged it on day one or something? Or is the entire quest chain just bottlenecked by the physical instrument check?

That's what I thought too, but alas, it's no the case. It just gives you a +1 or +2. You need something stronger than a crowbar. Soona should had given you an item.

No, see, I DID get the item from Soona; you can't even make the roll without it. It's just that it feels weird for such a major sidequest to be gated by a single check - I did it late in the game, so I had to run around for like an hour to scrounge up enough XP so I could put another point into Physical Instrument and re-open the check.
