How to recove the Gun (SPOILERS)

Guys, I am on Day 3, recovered my badge.

I don't want to help the fattie of the Union. Is there any way to recover my gun without doing favor to him?

Nope. If you want to screw him over, get the wrong signatures or forge them.

Opening the door doesn't even really accomplish anything, it's just him seeing if you'll do it. You can actually find out something helpful to the case inside the apartment. And like ^ said, you can make him think you've helped him with his second task without actually doing it.

You don't even have to open the door. If you click on it, Kim will suggest merely lying about opening the door. That works, although you do have to still pass a Drama check for the lie, and bluff about what you saw.

To get the option to provide the wrong signatures, inspect the papers and Kim will offer a suggestion there too.

Man, I cannot open the door. It says I am missing the key, I looked on some forums and it says this is a bug. I am on day three, just finished the quest for the crypto thing. Am so pieced.

You finished the crypto quest, which is why you can't unlock the door anymore. The Crypto guy Gary has now returned home. You waited too long to do the door quest.

But don't worry, you can still talk to Evrart and he'll say something like that you missed that door guy blah blah blah and then he'll give you another task.

Your journal really should update at that point, it's really not clear that that's Gary's apartment if you didn't try the quest until after meeting him out in the field.

If you didn't try the quest, why would you somehow intuit that it's his apartment? I mean, it's the contents of the apartment that provide at least part of the reason -- the rest, would depend upon noticing something very specific (but that you won't necessary notice, depending on skill checks) that would help tie him to Evrart's interest.

You wouldn't, but if the reason your character isn't doing it is because someone is home and they're never not going to be home at that point, your journal could at least say something to that effect.

Perhaps, but the reason that came to my mind was that it sounded like setting you up as a participant and possibly fall guy for a murder. You open the door and let them know; the killer gets to set up there to ambush without needing to take any time or effort on breaching, and now you get blackmailed with threats that you were witnessed opening up the place. This would be a terrible situation for a police officer to be in.

Bit of a worst case scenario, but sure, as good a reason not to unlock the door as any. Still, though, all the more reason to update your journal.
