Can't buy a boombox on the Pawnshop

So yeah, got the tape, can't use the one in the room i started, didn't have enough money to buy it at the first time(didn't even have 4 Real) and once i came back with money, that was it, no option to buy it out of nowhere, i tried clicking on everything, but that choice never appears for some reason.

Couldn't buy it on day 3, and now i went to the Pawnshop first thing in the morning in day 4 and wouldn't you know it, still can't buy the boombox.

Please tell me there is another way to listen to the tape!

Apparently it's a bug that can happen and has happened to some people, just need to be unlucky.

Worst thing is that the game just had a patch but this wasn't fixed.

That sucks - I kept playing quite a while after this thinking there was another way around but don't really want to restart unless I have to.

Me either, even worse, i just learned that Kim pays for your first night at the hotel if you don't have enough money, but i guess he isn't willing to pay for the boombox when it's needed to listen to a possibly important piece of evidence related to the murder case.

Seriously, it costs less than a night at the hotel and he won't pay or even suggest paying, particularly since the game doesn't give you a lot of money, even moreso if you are playing as someone that isn't corrupt, but nope, thanks to this bug, it's either have the money when you go to the shop or you're screwed.

...Okay, i did learn there is a way to get 100 Real, but it requires two really hard skills checks, one of which you can't retry, you can open a closed container close to Evrart using Rhetoric and it turns out there is something in it, and if you do a skill check you get 100 Real, which would have been useful to know before this.

You can also get 130 from Joyce quite easily iirc.

There's money everywhere, as long as you make sure to explore with the crowbar equipped. Some places with good chunks of money are the apartment complex and the basement of the bookstore.

I highly recommend taking money whenever it is offered, you're just gimping yourself for no good reason, and you're not obligated to play into either Joyce or Evart's agenda.

I guess, anyways, there really is no alternative outside of the boombox?

Is the tape necessary to solve the case at least, because right now i can't do anything regarding this.

Unfortunately, yes, you can't really progress without listening to it. Your option is probably try deleting all saves and starting fresh. If you have an earlier save where the option to buy is working, you could try editing your save file to give yourself more money?

Haven't checked to see if this works, but Reddit has apparently found a solution, it does involve going to your save files and changing some lines:

Go to the Reddit thread i posted, i just tested it out and it works, didn't even have to pay for it, the game just acts like i payed for it, even when i talk to the clerk there is a question that is basically "Since i paid for this, how does it work?" and i managed to listen to the tape and talk with Kim about it.

Shame that it wasn't patched yet, but yeah, you can change a few lines and get it.

Not just this quest that is bugged. All quests regarding Cuno are bugged for me as i have no dialogue options when talking to him. Can't finish the locusts quest because of this. Had another bug where Kim started talking in a convesation even though he had gone to bed. This game needs a few fixes.

I ran into this as well, hopefully they patch a fix - will try the save edit in a few days if they don't

This maybe out of topic, actually the game has a habit of jump save.... err how do i explain it, let's see you suddenly die because of fail checks, before the 'death dialogue' pops up, you load the game to nearest progress point, after you load, suddenly the UI gone, the circle pops up and the death dialogue came up
