Did I softlock myself out of the Soona/Church quest? [Spoilers?]

I'm trying to help Soona hear the void through her headphones. After talking to the guys in the tent, I learned of their speakers. I re-tried the "listen to headphones" option and failed.

I've talked to the guys in the tent again, and back to Soona, but I'm not seeing an option to use that speaker and can't retry the headphones option unless I boost a skill (which is capped).

Am I missing something here?

Get a thought that increases the perception cap? Like "Lonesome long way home".

If you haven't gotten the Insulindian Miracle yet, you can run back and forth between Joyce and Evrart until you can tell her his plans for the harbour. Doing that nets you a thought that unlocks every white check in the game. There are a few others that will unlock various checks as well. You might also try ordering a die from the dicemaker. Those unlock various checks as well.

Just accepting the failure also valid. If you're hitting the skill cap, in-universe you're just kind of reaching your character's natural limits.
