Good balance of skills?
I've heard that if you invest too heavily into skills they can actually end up doubling as disadvantages? Is it better to try to balance it out? I've also heard that forgetting about min-maxing and just role-playing and just taking what the dice deal you is part of the experience.

Invest your first points in your favorite skills and then raise your stats to re-attempt the white checks you care the most about. Inland empire is surprisingly useful.

Don't worry about skill allocation, but do spend them in skills and not *only* the thought cabinet. Just roleplay the character you want. The game really shines when you fail red checks, you get hilarious and beneficial results.

It's best to spend skills only after you failed a white check you really want to pass, since it's the only easy way to retry a check.

They double as disadvantages in the sense that they will ask you to say or do something that might not be the best idea to do, objectively speaking. They are more like advisors, rather than anything else. Urges, if you will. You can fight the impulses they send you.

I think the Volition is the most grounded skill there is. The side-effect, from what I understand, is that it will try to talk you away from doing anything hilarious/crazy. Like, it's trying to make you as "normal" (read: boring) person as possible. It has its ups and downs.

I ended up spending the one point I had on Volition because I kept failing in my talk with Evrart. But now I'm not sure if it was even necessary.

The extra HP, maybe, maybe not. It is nice to have a full stock of HP at the start of the day, but meds are super-cheap. But it is rolled occasionally. The passive checks in particular can provide information no other check can. Not as often, but still.
