non native English speakers
I wonder, would you recommend the game to people who are not native english speakers? I mean, I love the game and I do think it's not only a great unique game but also a piece of art, it's a masterpiece. But on the other hand, I'm really struggling to understand what it says all the time. And since you really need to understand what it tells you in order to advance, I wonder should non-native english speakers wait for a translation, provided a translation would be able to retain the nature or essence of the narrative?

I am not a native speaker and it's not that bad. Only thing I am struggling with is made up words in a wall of text. But I have no problem with understanding the text. Doesnt feel overwhelming if you are used to reading books or articles in english.
I recommend trying it and if you feel overwhelmed, give it a short break and come back. This game really is worth it ;)
Tides of Numenera were much worse :steambored:

Non-native speaker here. Not trying to be vain but I am as fluent in English as I am in my own native language so this doesn't represent a barrier in understanding the game.

But you are correct, this game does require inordinate level of proficiency to be fully understood. Still exactly because of this, it could be a tool for players to improve their English language skills in a fun and convenient way.

Just go for it.

If you managed to write that post you will be fine and learn a thing or two on your journey.

The game is quite easy to understand. I found Cultist Simulator a more painful experience, tbh.

I'm not a native speaker and I didn't struggle at all (although I did study English in college so that's a wash I suppose). If you're asking for yourself and you wrote the OP, you'll be just fine. It's a great game, go for it!

Thanks for the replies. I already own the game, though I bought it on GOG, and have played it a few hours. As I wrote, I find it a unique and wonderful experience, not only as a game but as a piece of art, but - though it may be just me, as I tend to try to understand every single word when I read something, and mostly use a dictionary if I don't -, I wonder if apart from the fact that I don't understand the lexical meaning of every word (which is not so bad as I can look for it), I may miss the deeper meaning of the texts (which may also matter gameplay-wise). As you probably know language is not just an aggregate of single words, but an expression of live as it is rooted in a society, in a local community, of how people in a society, group wahtever see and construct reality.

I'm spanish and, for example, I don't have enough level to understand english language watching a film. I played Pillars of eternity 1 on english and I had problems to understand lots of dialogues and texts.

It's a pity but I'll have to wait for a spanish translation
